Abstract:

The aim of the present study is to evaluate the effect of ethanolic extract of leaves of Leptadenia reticulata leaves (LELR) against Dalton’s Ascitic Lymphoma (DAL) in Swiss Albino mice. DAL cells were injected intraperitoneally (106 cells/mouse) to the mice. Two days after cells injection the animals were treated with 200 mg/kg of LELR for 8 days. Five-fluorouracil (20 mg/kg) was used as reference drug. On day 11, cancer cell number, packed cell volume, decrease in tumour weight of the mice, increase in life span and hematological parameters were evaluated and compared with the same parameters in controls. A significant increase in the life span and a decrease in the cancer cell number and tumour weight were noted in the tumour-induced mice after treatment with LELR. The hematological parameters were also normalized by LELR in tumour-induced mice. These observations are suggestive of the protective effect of LELR against Dalton’s Ascitic Lymphoma (DAL).

Antifungal activity of Leptadenia reticulata Wight and Arn. aerial parts

The petroleum ether, chloroform, acetone, methanol and aqueous extracts of the aerial parts of Leptadenia reticulata Wight and Arn. (Asclepiadaceae) were studied for in vitro antifungal activity against Aspergillus flavus, Aspergillus ruantti, Candida tropicalis, Candida albicans, Trichodermata viride and Trichodermata koningii respectively. The methanolic extract exhibited prominent antifungal...

Roots of the plant were collected at mukkombu, Trichy Dt., Tamilnadu shade dried, powdered and finally extracted with methanol in a soxhlet. The extract was evaporated to dryness and dissolved in phosphate buffer (pH 7.4) and used for the present investigation and phytochemical screening. Swiss albino mice having body weight between 20-24g were selected for the present investigation. The animal...

Preliminary study on the anti - implantation activity of Leptadenia reticulata in female rats

The effect of ethanolic extract of the whole plants of leptadenia reticulata has been studied in albino rats to explore it’s the anti-implantation and hormonal activities. A strong anti-implantation (inhibition 100%) and uterotropic activity was observed at the dose level of 300 mg /kg. No antiestrogenic activity could be detected. Keyword: Leptadenia reticulate; Antifertility; Anti-implantatio...
