An inquiry into the factors affecting motivation enhancement of faculty members of mashhad University of Medical Sciences in performing research projects in education

Abstract:

Aims: The purpose of this study was to investigate the factors affecting the motivation of research in teaching professors. Methods: The present study is of practical use and is exploratory in terms of processing and testing hypotheses. The researcher used a survey and field method to collect the required information and complete the questionnaires. The content validity of the questionnaire was confirmed by experts and the reliability of the questionnaire based on Cronbach's alpha method was 84%. In descriptive statistics, frequency tables and percentages, means and standard deviations were used, and in inferential statistics, Kolmogorov-Smirnov test was used to determine the normality of variables and structural equation test was used to answer research hypotheses. For the present study, according to the characteristics of the statistical population, the sampling method was selected according to the volume. In this method, each of the faculties is one class and each of the professors of Mashhad University of Medical Sciences is a sample unit. The statistical population of this study includes all 950 professors of Mashhad University of Medical Sciences. Based on Morgan's table formula, the sample size was estimated to be 284 people. Findings: Among the studied professors, 174 (61.3%) were male and 110 (38.7%) were female. The results showed that the priority factor of personal and professional aspects of professors with an average rank of 3.64 and the factor of cultural fields with an average rank of 3.21 and the factor of financial resources and research facilities with an average rank of 3.11 and the factor of research management and policy with an average rank of 2.57 and structural and administrative factor with an average rank of 2.47 has a role in strengthening the research motivation of professors. Also, the motivation for research in education was higher in female professors than male.  Conclusion It is necessary to strengthen the motivation to engage in educational research in parallel with education by encouraging and facilitating research in education and appropriate policies. The main purpose of holding all educational seminars, congresses, medical education conferences and Shahid Motahari educational festival and specialized meetings should be to promote the scientific level of researchers and strengthen research motivation in education because education that is not based on research will not meet the needs of medical students.
