Accumulation and Health Risk Assessment of Heavy Metals in (Ctenopharyngodon idella ) and (Cyprinus carpio) from Bashar River Yasouj

Authors

Abstract:

Due to the importance of fish consumpotion, their contamination with heavy metals can be a serious threat to food security and public health. In this regard, the aim of this study was investigates the concentration and evaluation of the health hazard of heavy metals) Lead, Chromium, Copper and Zinc( in muscle tissue of Cyprinus carpio and Ctenopharyngodon idella species in Bashar River, Yasuj. In order to assess the concentration of metals in fish and the health risks of their consumption , 60 fish samples were taken in different parts of the river, and after preparation and acide digestion samples, the concentrations of these metals were determined by using atomic absorbtion spectroscopy. The results showed that the average of total concentration of detected metals in both fish species was the same and alike with (Zn>Cu > Pb > Pb > Cr) mg / kg respectively. Also, the results showed that the level of health risk index for Cyprinus carpio and Ctenopharyngodon idella species was 0.348 and 0.244, respectively. Although the concentration of metals in fish does not have a health risk for consumers, but continuing the trend of entering various pollutants from urban, industrial and agricultural wastewater considering with the lack of principal management of river supply sources can lead to the accumulation of these elements in the food chain of the ecosystem, and the health of living creatures and their consumers is also at risk.

Heavy Metals Concentrations and Human Health Risk Assessment for Three Common Species of Fish from Karkheh River, Iran

Background: The concentrations of heavy metals in the tissues and organs of fishes indicate the concentrations of heavy metals in water and their accumulation in food chains. In the present study, the concentrations of Zn, Cu, Cd, Ni, V and Pb in three common species of fish and the potential health risks to local residents via consumption of the fishes were estimated.  Methods: The con...

Investigation of heavy metals accumulation in the sediment and body of carp fish in Aras River

Heavy metals are considered as the most dangerous water contaminants because of their possibility of bioaccumulation and toxic effects. This study tried to investigate the bio-availability of heavy metals in terms of Ni, Zn, Cu, Fe, Hg, Cd, and Pb in the sediment during dry seasons in Aras River basin located in Ardabil Province, north-west of Iran. Also the metal concentration in the skin and ...
