A Comparison of Lipman and Brenifie's Styles in Philosophy for Children

Abstract:

  Lipman is considered to be the origin of philosophy for children. His innovation in principle brought about a change in education. Philosophy for children in Lipmanchr('39')s conceptualization was a plan for promoting the skills of creative and critical thinking in comprehending philosophical issues by children. This plan is comprised of three constituents: self-correcting, sensitive-to – context and judgments through reliance upon criterion. In the same approach Brenifier too dealt with philosophy for children but with a different style. A comparison of these two styles can shed some light on understanding Lipmanchr('39')s approach. This comparative study is useful for formulating a model of philosophy for children proportionate with the Islamic culture in Iran.
