Abstract:

Objective: This study aimed to determine the predicting role of mindfulness and difficulties in emotion regulation in addiction potential in university students. Method: This was a correlational study which falls within the category of descriptive studies. The sample included 180 students of Kashan Payame Noor University who were selected randomly and filled the Five Facet Mindfulness Questionnaire (FFMQ), Difficulties in Emotion Regulation and the Addiction Potential Scales. Results: The results showed that there was a negative significant relationship between mindfulness and potential for addiction. Act with Awareness and no react subscales of FFMQ had negative correlation with potential for addiction. The difficulties in emotion regulation, no acceptance of emotional response, difficulties engaging in goal directed behaviour, lack of emotional awareness and impulse control difficulties (dimensions of difficulties in emotion regulation) had a significant positive correlation with addiction potential. Conclusion: The increasing of mindfulness and emotion regulation can use for preventing of addiction. The vulnerability of student can be declined by training of mindfulness and emotion regulation technics with lower cost than the treatment of addiction.
