A Case of Eclampsia in Twin Pregnancy

I was called by a midwife of the infant, welfare society in Mandalay at 2 a.m. on the 27th May last to attend a Burmese woman in labour with severe fits. She was a primipara, aged 17 years, with twins. The pains started in the morning of the 26th and by 11 p.m. the first baby was born naturally, without any trouble. The midwife was with the patient and was waiting for the,delivery of the second baby when at 1-30 a.m., two and a half hours after the delivery of the first child, fits started and I was sent for. I examined the woman and found the head high up with the membranes intact and as I was examining her she got another severe fit. To hasten the delivery of the second child, I punctured the membranes and gave her an injection of 1 c.cm. pituitrin.
