Vehicular Communications in the V-Charge Project

چکیده
Future requirements for drastic reduction of CO2 production and energy consumption will lead to significant changes in the way we see mobility in the years to come. However, the automotive industry has identified significant barriers to the adoption of electric vehicles, including reduced driving range and greatly increased refueling times. The V-Charge Project, funded by the European Commission, seeks to address these problems simultaneously by developing an electric automated car, outfitted with close-to-market sensors, which is able to automate valet parking and recharging for integration into a future transportation system. In this paper, we describe the research challenges associated with providing a wireless Vehicleto-X (V2X) communication infrastructure for V-Charge-enabled parking areas.

Exhaust emissions contribute greatly to air pollution, the social cost of which may occur as danger to human health, attracting huge medical expenses, causing absenteeism and hence loss of productivity. These are incentives to reduce exhaust emissions to the barest minimum. Two major cities in Ghana, Accra and Kumasi, are struck by vehicular traffic jams especially during rush-hours and are gra...

Most applications built upon vehicular communications (V2X) target on increasing traffic safety. They often require a direct communication between at least two vehicles equipped with a communication device. Thereby, a sufficient amount of equipped vehicles is necessary for assuring these applications’ functionality. Meanwhile, traffic management needs information about the state on the roads. T...
