چکیده

This paper proposes an all-fiber fast optical frequency-hop code division multiple access (FFH-CDMA) for high-bandwidth communications. The system does not require an optical frequency synthesizer, allowing high communication bit rates. Encoding and decoding are passively achieved by strain-tunable fiber Bragg gratings. Multiple Bragg gratings replace a frequency synthesizer, achieving a hopping rate in tens of GHz. A main lobe sinc apodization can be used in writing the gratings to enhance the system capacity and the spectrum efficiency. All network users can use the same tunable encoder/decoder design. The simultaneous utilization of the time and frequency domains offers notable flexibility in code selection. Simulations show that the encoder efficiently performs the FFH spread spectrum signal generation and that the receiver easily extracts the desired signal from a received signal for several multiple access interference scenarios. We measure the system performance in terms of bit error rate, as well as autoto cross-correlation contrast. A transmission rate of 500 Mb/s per user is supported in a system with up to 30 simultaneous users at 10 9 bit error rate. We compare FFH-CDMA to several direct sequence-CDMA systems in terms of bit error rate versus the number of simultaneous users. We show that an optical FFH-CDMA system requires new design criteria for code families, as optical device technology differs significantly from that of radio frequency communications.

Experimental Demonstration of Optical Fast Frequency Hopping-CDMA Communications

Code division multiple access (CDMA) is a highly flexible multiple access protocol, however, significant signal bandwidth expansion is required. Given the Terahertz pass band of optical fiber, the frequency spreading of the CDMA signal is no impediment, provided it can be accomplished optically. Among wide variants of optical CDMA techniques, only a spectral encoding based approach [1] has pene...

Modified prime-hop codes for optical CDMA systems - Communications, IEE Proceedings-

In the early stage of optical CDMA systems, the spreading codes, such as optical orthogonal codes (OOCs) and prime codes, are only coded in the time domain. However, the small code size becomes the major issue for one-dimensional codes. To deal with this limitation of onedimensional codes, a new family of two-dimensional codes is proposed for optical CDMA systems. The new codes are modified fro...

New Architecture & Codes for Optical Frequency-Hopping Multiple Access

We propose a new architecture for an optical fast frequency-hop code division multiple access (FFH-CDMA) system using tunable Bragg gratings. Previously proposed architectures called for a series of in-fiber Bragg gratings, each independently tunable with a piezo-electric device. We propose a system where the entire fiber of multiple Bragg gratings uses one piezo-electric device to tune to a pa...

Coherent optical pulse CDMA systems based on coherent correlation detection

Passive optical matched-filtered detection (MFD) has been employed in many proposed optical pulse code division multiple access (CDMA) system implementations, driving the development of unipolar pseudo-orthogonal codes (incoherent). In this paper, coherent optical pulse CDMA systems based on coherent correlation detection (CCD) through homodyne correlation detection (HCD) and self-HCD directly ...
