Banff 07 classification of renal allograft pathology: updates and future directions.

چکیده
The 9th Banff Conference on Allograft Pathology was held in La Coruna, Spain on June 23-29, 2007. A total of 235 pathologists, clinicians and scientists met to address unsolved issues in transplantation and adapt the Banff schema for renal allograft rejection in response to emerging data and technologies. The outcome of the consensus discussions on renal pathology is provided in this article. Major updates from the 2007 Banff Conference were: inclusion of peritubular capillaritis grading, C4d scoring, interpretation of C4d deposition without morphological evidence of active rejection, application of the Banff criteria to zero-time and protocol biopsies and introduction of a new scoring for total interstitial inflammation (ti-score). In addition, emerging research data led to the establishment of collaborative working groups addressing issues like isolated 'v' lesion and incorporation of omics-technologies, paving the way for future combination of graft biopsy and molecular parameters within the Banff process.

The Banff classification revisited.
From small beginnings in 1991, the Banff working classification of renal allograft pathology has grown to be a major force for setting standards in renal transplant pathology, and is widely used in international clinical trials of new antirejection agents. The meeting, classification, and consensus process have unique history, and look poised to continue for another several decades as the embod...

PURPOSE OF REVIEW To revisit the history and main defining characteristics of the Banff classification. RECENT FINDINGS From small beginnings in 1991 the Banff classification of renal allograft pathology has grown to be the major standard setting force in renal transplant pathology and in international clinical trials of new antirejection agents. The meeting and classification has unique hist...
متن کاملThe Banff 97 working classification of renal allograft pathology.
BACKGROUND Standardization of renal allograft biopsy interpretation is necessary to guide therapy and to establish an objective end point for clinical trials. This manuscript describes a classification, Banff 97, developed by investigators using the Banff Schema and the Collaborative Clinical Trials in Transplantation (CCTT) modification for diagnosis of renal allograft pathology. METHODS Ban...
متن کاملAcute renal failure in the transplanted kidney.
Acute renal failure (ARF) in the transplanted kidney represents a high-stakes area of nephrology and of transplantation practice. A correct diagnosis can lead to rapid return of renal function; an incorrect diagnosis can lead to loss of the graft and severe sequelae for the patient. The diagnostic possibilities are many (Fig. 10-1) and treatments quite different, although the clinical presentat...
متن کاملImmunohistochemical study of endothelin-1 (ET-1) in human acute renal allograft rejection.
Immunoperoxidase staining was carried out using monoclonal antibody against endothelin-1 on renal allograft biopsy specimens from thirty one patients with acute renal transplant rejection: Banff 97 score IA (n = 11), score IB (n = 10) and score IIA (n = 10). As a control 10 biopsy specimens of the kidneys removed because of trauma were used. Endothelin-1 immunostaining was investigated in the r...
