Initialization Protocols for IEEE 802.11-Based Ad Hoc Networks

چکیده
Leader election and initialization are two fundamental problems in mobile ad hoc networks (MANET s). The leader can serve as a coordinator in the MANET s and the initialization protocol can assign each host a unique and short id. As we know that none of the research on initialization for IEEE 802.11-basedMANET s has been done. Here, we proposed two contention-based leader election and initialization protocols for IEEE 802.11-based singlehopMANET s. Simulation results show that our protocols are efficient.

Design and performance analysis of leader election and initialization protocols on ad hoc networks

متن کاملA Hidden Node Aware Network Allocation Vector Management System for Multi-hop Wireless Ad hoc Networks
Many performance evaluations for IEEE 802.11distributed coordination function (DCF) have been previouslyreported in the literature. Some of them have clearly indicatedthat 802.11 MAC protocol has poor performance in multi-hopwireless ad hoc networks due to exposed and hidden nodeproblems. Although RTS/CTS transmission scheme mitigatesthese phenomena, it has not been successful in thoroughlyomit...
متن کاملPerforming Clock Synchronization for Power Management in Multi-hop Ad Hoc Networks
One of the common underlying assumptions in IEEE 802.11 standards' ad hoc mode operations is that all stations in the same IBSS can hear each other directly. In other words, the ad hoc mode of 802.11 supports only single-hop ad hoc networks. When extended to multi-hop environments, IEEE 802.11 protocols show a poor performance, if they are able to work at all. This has been acknowledged by rese...
متن کاملIEEE 802.11 over multi-hop wireless networks: problems and new perspectives
The distributed coordination function (DCF) mode of the IEEE 802.11 MAC standard, though proposed for medium access in wireless local area networks, is seen as the de-facto medium access standard in multi-hop wireless networks. In this paper we contend that the unique characteristics that differentiate multi-hop wireless ad-hoc networks from local area wireless networks render the IEEE 802.11 M...
متن کاملPower-Saving Protocols for IEEE 802.11-Based Multi-Hop Ad Hoc Networks
Power-saving is a critical issue for almost all kinds of portable devices. In this paper, we consider the design of power-saving protocols for mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs) that allow mobile hosts to switch to a low-power sleep mode. The MANETs being considered in this paper are characterized by unpredictable mobility, multi-hop communication, and no clock synchronization mechanism. In partic...
