چکیده

A short cut review was carried out to establish whether the use of the Trendelenburg position improves the rate of cardioversion in supraventricular tachycardias (SVTs). 54 papers were found of which 3 presented the best evidence to answer the clinical question. The author, date and country of publication, patient group studied, study type, relevant outcomes, results and study weaknesses of these best papers are tabulated. The clinical bottom line is that a modified Valsalva manoeuvre used with the Trendelenburg position appears to increase the success rates of reverting patients in SVT back to sinus rhythm compared with the sitting/ standing position.

Intravenous amiodarone used alone or in combination with digoxin for life-threatening supraventricular tachyarrhythmia in neonates and small infants.

OBJECTIVES The purpose of this study was to report the efficacy of intravenous amiodarone alone or in combination with digoxin in neonates and small infants with life-threatening supraventricular tachyarrhythmia (SVT). METHODS We retrospectively analyzed 9 neonates and small infants with life-threatening or resistant SVT who were treated with intravenous amiodarone alone or in combination wit...

The hemodynamic effects of induced supraventricular tachycardia in man.

The circulatory effects of supraventricular tachycardia (SVT) were studied in eight patients who reported disabling symptoms during paroxysms of the arrhythmia. Supraventricular tachycardia was induced in each patient by rapid atrial pacing or with atrial premature stimuli. Hemodynamic parameters in sinus rhythm and following the initiation of SVT were recorded and compared. The following mean ...

Long-term outcome of ablative therapy of postoperative supraventricular tachycardias in patients with univentricular heart: a European multicenter study.

BACKGROUND Catheter ablation has evolved as a possible curative treatment modality for supraventricular tachycardias (SVT) in patients with univentricular heart. However, the long-term outcome of ablation procedures is unknown. We evaluated the procedural and long-term outcome of ablative therapy of late postoperative SVT in patients with univentricular heart. METHODS AND RESULTS Patients wit...

Automated analysis of spontaneously occurring arrhythmias by implantable devices. Limitations of using rate and timing features alone.

Real-time automated systems for arrhythmia analysis by implantable antitachycardia devices have been designed to incorporate two-channel rate criteria with intracavitary atrial and ventricular electrogram morphology. Because the power requirements for morphologic analysis substantially limit antitachycardia device longevity, the authors sought to develop an alternative algorithm that relies sol...

Etomidate as an antiarrhythmic.

Editor—We wish to report a case of etomidate reverting ventricular tachycardia to sinus rhythm. Although there have been several case reports and studies demonstrating the antiarrhythmic affects of propofol this has not been true of etomidate. A 59-yr-old man presented to the emergency department with a 2 h history of central chest pain radiating to the left arm and palpitations. He denied any ...
