چکیده

In this work we present control volume multiscale methods which address problems on the interaction between pore scale and Darcy scale. For the case when linear equations govern the flow on the pore scale our solution converges to semi-analytical solution. Moreover, the method also extends to non-linear problems governed by NavierStokes equations. We show numerical results illustrating the applicability of the method.

Comparison of Binomial and Power Equations in Radial Non-Darcy Flows in Coarse Porous Media

Analysis of non-laminar flows in coarse alluvial beds has a wide range of applications in various civil engineering, oil and gas, and geology problems. Darcy equation is not valid to analyze transient and turbulent flows, so non-linear equations should be applied. Non-linear equations are classified into power and binomial equations. Binomial equation is more accurate in a wide range of velocit...

Mortar multiscale finite element methods for Stokes-Darcy flows

We investigate mortar multiscale numerical methods for coupled Stokes and Darcy flows with the Beavers–Joseph–Saffman interface condition. The domain is decomposed into a series of subdomains (coarse grid) of either Stokes or Darcy type. The subdomains are discretized by appropriate Stokes or Darcy finite elements. The solution is resolved locally (in each coarse element) on a fine scale, allow...

A stabilized mixed finite element method for Darcy flow based on a multiscale decomposition of the solution

Recently Masud and Hughes proposed a stabilized mixed finite element formulation for Darcy flow. An interesting feature of this formulation is that there are no mesh-dependent parameters. In the present work we provide a derivation of this formulation based on a multiscale decomposition of the solution. We also extend the work of Masud and Hughes to three-dimensional problems and show the conve...

Numerical simulation of the free surface and water inflow of a slope, considering the nonlinear flow properties of gravel layers: a case study

Groundwater is an important factor of slope stability, and 90% of slope failures are related to the influence of groundwater. In the past, free surface calculations and the prediction of water inflow were based on Darcy's law. However, Darcy's law for steady fluid flow is a special case of non-Darcy flow, and many types of non-Darcy flows occur in practical engineering applications. In this pap...

An Adaptive Finite Element Heterogeneous Multiscale Method for Stokes Flow in Porous Media

A finite element heterogeneous multiscale method is proposed for solving the Stokes problem in porous media. The method is based on the coupling of an effective Darcy equation on a macroscopic mesh, with unknown permeabilities recovered from micro finite element calculations for Stokes problems on sampling domains centered at quadrature points in each macro element. The numerical method account...
