Microtubular Crystals in Mammalian Cells

Periwinkle alkaloids in very low concentrations cause an intracytoplasmic sequestration of microtubule protein in the form of symmetrical, microtubular bodies. These crystals, which may measure up to 8 micro in length, appear within 30 min in L-strain fibroblasts in vitro, but they increase in incidence and size with time of exposure to the alkaloids. Similarly, if exposed to these compounds, h...

Microtubular stability affects cardiomyocyte glycolysis by HIF-1alpha expression and endonuclear aggregation during early stages of hypoxia.

Hypoxia-inducible factor (HIF)-1alpha is a key regulator of anaerobic energy metabolism. We asked the following question: Does the breakdown of microtubular structures influence glycolysis in hypoxic cardiomyocytes by regulating HIF-1alpha? Neonatal rat cardiomyocytes were cultured under hypoxic conditions, while microtubule-stabilizing (paclitaxel) and -depolymerizing (colchicine) agents were ...

Measurment of stable Glycosylated Hemoglobin (Hb A1) and Its unstable type (pre- Hb A1c) with the lon- exchange Chromatography in Diabetic patients

SUMMARY: At present, measurment of glycosylated hemoglobin, especially the stable fraction of hemoglobin (HbA1c) is one of the ways to control diabetes because this measurment can demonstrate total glycemia during last 1.2.3 months. Glycosylated hemoglobin is seen in 3 forms: Ala Alb A1c. Among these hemoglobin Alc is quantitively more than other 2 forms and its difference with other hemoglobi...

Polycystin-2 cation channel function is under the control of microtubular structures in primary cilia of renal epithelial cells.

Mutations in the gene encoding polycystin-2 (PC2) result in autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease and defects in left-right asymmetry during embryogenesis. PC2 is a TRP-type Ca(2+)-permeable non-selective cation channel, which is expressed in kidney and other organs. PC2 is present and functional in microtubule-containing primary cilia of renal epithelial cells. However, no information i...
