چکیده

The development of wireless broadband access network (WBAN) leads to enhance the insufficiency of unoccupied radio resources. This is quite expected in coming times, wireless cellular technologies and wireless local area networks (WLANs) will work together in coexistence scenario within the alike unlicensed spectrums (USs). Although, two most emerging wireless networks, i.e., Long Term Evaluation (LTE) and Wi-Fi, are available to operate in separate bands, but not to operate in the coexisting scenario, particularly in unlicensed spectrum. Here, we review the challenges that occur as a result of the simultaneous functioning of LTE and Wi-Fi within the alike USs from the angle of radio resource management (RRM). We demonstrate that Wi-Fi can strongly affect by LTE transmissions; thus, the integrated LTE and Wi-Fi requires to be cautiously examined. We introduce few feasible coexistence operations and scopes in coming time which may result in the fruitful allied deployment of LTE and Wi-Fi within the alike USs.

LWIP and Wi-Fi Boost Link Management

3GPP LWIP Release 13 technology and its prestandard version Wi-Fi Boost have recently emerged as an efficient LTE and Wi-Fi integration at the IP layer, allowing uplink on LTE and downlink on Wi-Fi. This solves all the contention problems of Wi-Fi and allows an optimum usage of the unlicensed band for downlink. In this paper, we present a new feature of Wi-Fi Boost, its radio link management, w...

Simulating LTE and Wi-Fi Coexistence in Unlicensed Spectrum with ns-3

The use of unlicensed spectrum for future LTE systems raises concerns about its impact on co-located Wi-Fi networks. As specifications are being developed, simulation has been widely employed for assessing the performance of coexistence mechanisms for LTE on unlicensed bands. We report herein on extensions to a popular network simulator, known as ns-3, to model such coexistence. To our knowledg...

Enabling Fair Spectrum Sharing between Wi-Fi and LTE-Unlicensed

Due to the fast increase of mobile traffic, most mobile network operators face the congestion issue in licensed spectrum bands. Several telecommunication vendors and operators propose to expand LTE service to the unlicensed spectrum bands to relieve the traffic congestion. However, LTE in unlicensed spectrum may interfere with Wi-Fi communications in the same bands and cause significant decreas...

Revisiting 802.11 for User Fairness and Efficient Channel Utilization in Presence of LTE-U

A promising solution satisfying the industry’s demand to have minimum alterations in LTE for its operation in unlicensed spectrum is duty cycled LTE-U scheme, which adopts discontinuous transmission to ensure fair coexistence with 802.11 (Wi-Fi) WLANs. Even though the scheme guarantees to maintain Wi-Fi network performance, the fairness among Wi-Fi users still remains arcane. In this work, we p...
