چکیده

Automation is an important issue when integrating heterogeneous collections into archaeological digital libraries. We propose an incremental approach through intermediaryand mapping-based techniques. A visual schema mapping tool within the 5S framework allows semi-automatic mapping and incremental global schema enrichment. 5S also helped speed up development of a new multi-dimensional browsing service. Our approach helps integrate the Megiddo excavation data into a growing union archaeological DL, ETANA-DL.

Schema Mapper: A Visualization Tool for Incremental Semi-automatic Mapping-based Integration of Heterogeneous Collections into Archaeological Digital Libraries: The ETANA-DL Case Study

Schema mapping is a challenging problem. It has come to the fore in recent years; there are important applications like database schema integration and, more recently, digital library (DL) merging of heterogeneous data. With Schema Mapper we demonstrate a semi-automatic tool for schema integration that combines a novel visual interface with an algorithm-based recommendation engine. We use ETANA...

Integration of Heterogeneous Digital Libraries with Semi-automatic Mapping and Browsing: From Formalization to Specification to Visualization

In this paper, we formalize the digital library (DL) integration problem and propose an overall approach based on the 5S framework. We apply 5S to domain-specific (archaeological) DLs, illustrating our solutions for key problems in DL integration. We use ETANA-DL as a case study to describe the process of semi-automatically generating a union catalog and a unified browsing service in an archaeo...

Object-Based Classification of UltraCamD Imagery for Identification of Tree Species in the Mixed Planted Forest

This study is a contribution to assess the high resolution digital aerial imagery for semi-automatic analysis of tree species identification. To maximize the benefit of such data, the object-based classification was conducted in a mixed forest plantation. Two subsets of an UltraCam D image were geometrically corrected using aero-triangulation method. Some appropriate transformations were perfor...

▶B-Tree Locking B-Tree Locking

B category, and a bubble attached to a node represents a set of archaeological records. The size of a bubble attached to a node reflects the number of records belonging to that category. The hyperbolic tree supports ‘‘focus + context’’ navigation; it also provides an overview of records organized in the archaeological digital library. It shows that the records are from seven archaeological site...

Semantic Web Techniques for Multiple Views on Heterogeneous Collections: A Case Study

Integrated digital access to multiple collections is a prominent issue for many Cultural Heritage institutions. The metadata describing diverse collections must be interoperable, which requires aligning the controlled vocabularies that are used to annotate objects from these collections. In this paper, we present an experiment where we match the vocabularies of two collections by applying the K...
