Post Colonoscopy Colonic Intussusception Reduced via a Laparoscopic Approach

چکیده
Intussusception occurs when a mass in the bowel is pulled forward by normal peristalsis, with resultant invagination of the involved bowel wall. In the absence of a mass, intussusception may be caused by functional disturbances without gross mural abnormality. Colo-colonic intussusception in adult is relatively rare and usually secondary to a definable lesion, the majority of which are malignant in nature. Idiopathic intussusception in adults is rare and its pathogenesis is poorly understood. We present a case report of an adult colo-colonic intussusception occurring after colonoscopy, which was treated successfully with laparoscopic reduction. We speculate that the intussusception was induced by post-polypectomy mucosal edema acting as a lead point and therefore can be treated without resection.

Laparoscopic colectomy of colonic intussusceptions in adults
Adult intussusception is a rare entity. Most adult intussusceptions require surgical intervention because they have a high rate of pathologic leading point. Mandatory laparotomy and en bloc resection is recommended in colonic intussusceptions due to the possibility of malignancy. We report herein 3 cases of adult colonic intussusceptions. The intussusceptions were located in the sigmoid and rec...
متن کاملLaparoscopic Surgery for an Intussusception Caused by a Lipoma in the Ascending Colon
A colonic intussusception caused by an intraluminal lipoma is a rare disease in adults, in whom it usually has a definite organic cause. In fact, it is either caused by a benign or a malignant condition, both of which occur at similar rates. However, little literature is available on laparoscopic procedures for use in cases of adult colonic intussusceptions. Recently, a 52-year-old woman was ad...

متن کامل[Submucosal lipoma of the colon with intussusception].
Lipomas are the most frequent benign tumours of the digestive tract and 50% are localized in the colon. Most are found in the submucosa and may vary in their incidence, localization, symptoms and pathogenesis. We present the case of a 49-year-old female with intermittent intestinal subocclusion, abdominal distention and intussusception. Colonoscopy disclosed a submucous tumour in the descending...
متن کاملLaparoscopic operation after pre-operative reduction of an intussusception-induced inflammatory fibroid polyp
Intussusception occurs mainly in children but rarely in adults. About 80-90% of adult cases of intussusception are due to benign or malignant neoplasms as a lead point. One of the causes is an inflammatory fibroid polyp (IFP), a rare, benign entity that occurs more frequently in the stomach than the ileum. We describe an uncommon case of a patient who presented with intussusception-induced IFP ...
