چکیده

The detection of the optic nerve in retina images is a key element of detecting the anatomical structure of the retina. In this work we report on the fusion of two complementary optic nerve detection methods. The methods are complementary in the sense that they use different fundamental queues for locating the optic nerve. By fusing the methods through applying simple distance-based threshold, a confidence level may be assigned to the quality of the optic nerve detection. In a practical screening system this metric can be used to determine if the images should be immediately reviewed by a physician or if further automatic processing is feasible. We report on the results for two different data sets and show that the use of the threshold improves detection quality. Keywords— Retina, optic disk, optic nerve, telemedicine

P129: Use of Stem Cells to Regenerate Degenerative Optic Nerve

Stem cells are undifferentiated cells that have the ability to convert to different types of cells and after dividing, they can produce their own cells or other cells. Axons of the retinal ganglion cells, from the optic nerve. These cells lose the ability to regenerate themselves before birth. Optic nerve degeneration can result from various causes including increased intraocular pressure, comp...

Magnetic resonance imaging of feline eye

The purpose of this study was to investigate magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the normal feline eyeand optic nerves using T1-weighted and T2-weighted images. A total of 6 healthy female domestic short haircats age 2-2.5 years and weighing 3.2 ± 0.4 kg were selected. Magnetic resonance imaging data werecollected using GEMSOW (Philips) at a magnetic field strength of 1.5 T. Dorsal, sagittal, a...

بررسی یافته های MRI مغز در بیماران مبتلا به نوریت اپتیک

Background and purpose: Optic neuritis is one of the common causes of unilateral or bilateral visual loss. The most common cause of this disorder is demyelinating disease of the central nervous system (CNS) and most of the patients with optic neuritis will present other signs of multiple sclerosis (MS). The diagnosis depends on the clinical findings, however, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is...

Evaluating the optic nerve and retinal nerve fibre layer: the roles of Heidelberg retina tomography, scanning laser polarimetry and optical coherence tomography.

INTRODUCTION For many years, ophthalmologists have looked at the optic nerve head to evaluate the status of glaucoma. Clinical examination of the optic nerve head and retinal nerve fibre layer (RNFL) is however, subjective and sometimes variable. Recent developments in computer-based imaging technologies have provided a means of obtaining quantitative measurements of the optic nerve head topogr...

Variability across the optic nerve head in scanning laser tomography.

AIM To characterise measurement variability in scanning laser tomography of the optic nerve head. METHODS 21 normal and 21 glaucoma subjects underwent same and separate day test-retest Heidelberg retina tomograph imaging by the same and different operators. RESULTS Rim area was most reproducible among parameters. Its variability tended to be highest temporally and increased (p<0.05) with te...
