چکیده

Two-dimensional (2D) electromagnetic scattering from a target above the sea with breaking water wave is studied by a multiregional iterative analytical-numerical method that combines the boundary integral method (BIM) and the Kirchhoff approximation (KA). Based on the “PiersonMoskowitz” (PM) sea surface and the LONGTANK breaking wave, a theoretical model of a target above the rough sea surface with breaking wave is built firstly in this paper. Unlike traditional sea surface, the multipath scattering between the crest of the breaking wave and the target cannot be accurately predicted based on KA alone. To improve the algorithm precision, a multiregional hybrid analytical-numerical method is proposed. In our multiregional model, the whole sea is divided into two subregions: the breaking wave and the PM sea surface. The scattering from the breaking wave and the object is well approximated by BIM, while the PM sea surfaces can be estimated very well by KA based on Fresnel theories. Taking the interaction between KA region and BIM region into account, an iterative system is developed which gives a quick convergence. The hybrid technique presented here is highly efficient in terms of computing memory, time consumed, and versatility.

Direct Numerical Simulation of Electromagnetic Rough Surface and Sea Scattering by an Improved Banded Matrix Iterative Method

A new method for direct numerical simulation of electromagnetic or acoustic wave scattering by randomly rough surfaces is presented. The numerical scheme is derived from the well-known method of moments, in which the surface current integral equation is discretized to form a large matrix inverse problem. The simulations use recent advances in the efficient solution of the inverse problem that e...

A hybrid method, combining analytic Kirchhoff approximation (KA) and numerical method of moments (MoMs), is developed to solve the two-dimensional (2D) scattering problem of a dielectric target with arbitrary cross section above a moderate perfect electric conductor (PEC) rough surface under TE-polarized tapered wave incidence. The induced current on the rough surface is analytically expressed ...

Bubble entrainment by breaking waves and their influence on optical scattering in the upper ocean

Breaking waves at the ocean’s surface inject bubbles and turbulence into the water column. During periods of rough weather the scales of wave breaking will increase with increasing sea states and result in mixing of the surface waters and the turbulent transport of bubbles to depth. Depending on their concentrations and size distribution, the entrained bubbles can significantly change the optic...

Iterative Hybrid Method for Electromag- Netic Scattering from a 3-d Object above a 2-d Random Dielectric Rough Surface

An iterative hybrid method combining the Kirchhoff approximation (KA) and the multilevel fast multipole algorithm (MLFMA) is studied for electromagnetic scattering from a threedimensional (3-D) object above a two-dimensional (2-D) random dielectric rough surface. In order to reduce the computational costs, some treatments have been studied. Firstly, the fast far-field approximation (FAFFA) is u...
