چکیده

A Fourier analysis on galaxy number counts from redshift data of both the Sloan Digital Sky Survey and the 2dF Galaxy Redshift Survey indicates that galaxies have preferred periodic redshift spacings of ∆z = 0.0102, 0.0246, and 0.0448 in the SDSS and strong agreement with the results from the 2dF GRS. The redshift spacings are confirmed by the mass density fluctuations, the power spectrum P (z) and Npairs calculations. Application of the Hubble law results in galaxies preferentially located on co-moving concentric shells with periodic spacings. The combined results from both surveys indicate regular co-moving radial distance spacings of 31.7± 1.8 hMpc, 73.4± 5.8 hMpc and 127± 21 hMpc. The results are consistent with oscillations in the expansion rate of the universe over past epochs. Subject headings: galaxies:distances and redshifts—large-scale structure of universe

The Pairwise Velocity Distribution Function of Galaxies in the LCRS, 2dF, and SDSS Redshift Surveys

A comparison of the galaxy pairwise velocity distribution functions determined from the three largest publicly available galaxy redshift surveys is presented. This is the first direct comparison of this function across these surveys using an identical method. It is found that the two r-band selected surveys, the LCRS (Las Campanas Redshift Survey) and the SDSS (Sloan Digital Sky Survey), are in...

Compression and Classification Methods for Galaxy Spectra in Large Redshift Surveys

Methods for compression and classification of galaxy spectra, which are useful for large galaxy redshift surveys (such as the SDSS, 2dF, 6dF and VIRMOS), are reviewed. In particular, we describe and contrast three methods: (i) Principal Component Analysis, (ii) Information Bottleneck, and (iii) Fisher Matrix. We show applications to 2dF galaxy spectra and to mock semi-analytic spectra, and we d...

Mock 2dF and SDSS galaxy redshift surveys

We present a comprehensive set of mock 2dF and SDSS galaxy redshift surveys constructed from a set of large, high-resolution cosmological N -body simulations. The radial selection functions and geometrical limits of the catalogues mimic those of the genuine surveys. The catalogues span a wide range of cosmologies, including both open and flat universes. In all the models the galaxy distribution...

No Periodicities in 2dF Redshift Survey Data

We have used the publicly available data from the 2dF Galaxy Redshift Survey and the 2dF QSO Redshift Survey to test the hypothesis that there is a periodicity in the redshift distribution of quasi-stellar objects (QSOs) found projected close to foreground galaxies. These data provide by far the largest and most homogeneous sample for such a study, yielding 1647 QSO–galaxy pairs. There is no ev...

Clustering statistics on a light-cone in the cosmological redshift space

We summarize a series of our recent work concerning the cosmological redshift-space distortion and light-cone effects. After briefly describing the theoretical formalism, we show how those effects are sensitive to the cosmological parameters. Then we apply this formalism to predict the two-point correlation functions and power spectra for the X-ray clusters, galaxies and quasars in future surve...
