Flares on the Black Holes

چکیده

A Kerr black hole can flare quasi-periodically, if it is magnetically connected to the accretion disk. The flares extract the rotational energy of the hole. The flaring occurs because the hole twists the magnetic field lines beyond the threshold of the screw instability. Subject headings: black holes – magnetic fields

Flares from the Tidal Disruption of Stars by Massive Black Holes

Tidal disruption flares are differentiated into two classes – those which are sub-Eddington and those which radiate near the Eddington limit. Flares from black holes above ∼ 2× 10M⊙ will generally not radiate above the Eddington limit. For a Schwarzschild black hole, the maximum bolometric luminosity of a tidal disruption is ∼ LEdd(5 × 10 M⊙), substantially below the Eddington luminosities of t...

Measurement of Mass and Spin of Black Holes with QPOs

There are now four low mass X-ray binaries with black holes which show twin resonant-like HFQPOs. Similar QPOs might have been found in Sgr A∗. I review the power spectral density distributions of the three X-ray flares and the six NIR flares published for Sgr A∗ so far, in order to look for more similarities than just the frequencies between the microquasar black holes and Sgr A∗. The three X-...

Constraining global parameters of accreting black holes by modeling magnetic flares

We present modeling results for the reprocessed radiation expected from magnetic flares above AGN accretion disks. Relativistic corrections for the orbital motion of the flare and for the curved space-time in the vicinity of the black hole are taken into account. We investigate the local emission spectra, as seen in a frame co-orbiting with the disk, and the observed spectra at infinity. We inv...

Gravitational Wave and X-ray Signals from Stellar Disruption by a Massive Black Hole

Gravitational waves and X-ray flares are expected from tidal disruption of stars by a massive black hole. Using a relativistic smoothed particle hydrodynamics code, we investigate the fate of main sequence and Helium stars in plunge orbits passing near Schwarzschild or a Kerr black holes of mass ∼ 10M⊙. We show that quadrupole gravitational waves emitted during the tidal disruption process are ...

X-ray Flares and Oscillations from the Black Hole Candidate X-ray Transient Xte J1650–500 at Low Luminosity

We report on X-ray observations made with the Rossi X-ray Timing Explorer of the black hole candidate (BHC) transient XTE J1650–500 at the end of its first, and currently only, outburst. By monitoring the source at low luminosities over several months, we found 6 bright ∼100 s X-ray flares and long time scale oscillations of the X-ray flux. The oscillations are aperiodic with a characteristic t...
