چکیده

An efficient two-stage algorithm for binaural cue preserving speech dereverberation by spectral weighting is presented. The first stage reduces late reverberant speech components where the second stage aims at a suppression of non-coherent early and remaining late reverberant speech components. The proposed system is based on the binaural speech dereverberation algorithm of Jeub et al. [3]. In contrast to that contribution, the realization of the needed delayand-sum beamformer and the blind estimation of reverberation time and time-difference-of-arrivalwith low complexity and low delay is tackled. In addition, the problem of a decreased signal energy for the enhanced signal due to spectral weighting is addressed by an efficient approach.

A Simulation Study on Binaural Dereverberation and Noise Reduction based on Diffuse Power Spectral Density Estimators

Enhancement techniques in binaural hearing aids are crucial to improve speech understanding for hearing impaired persons in reverberation and noise. Since reverberation and noise can be commonly modeled as diffuse sound fields, many state-of-theart techniques require an estimate of the diffuse power spectral density (PSD). In this paper we evaluate the performance of binaural dereverberation an...

Real-time multiband dynamic compression and noise reduction for binaural hearing aids.

A multi-signal-processor set-up is introduced that is used for real-time implementation of digital hearing aid algorithms that operate on stereophonic (i.e., binaural) input signals and perform signal processing in the frequency domain. A multiband dynamic compression algorithm was implemented which operates in 24 critical band filter channels, allows for interaction between frequency bands and...

Classification based binaural dereverberation

Reverberation has a detrimental effect on speech perception both in terms of quality as well as intelligibility, as late reflections smear temporal and spectral cues. The ideal binary mask, which is an established computational approach to sound separation, was recently extended to remove reverberation. Experiments with both normal hearing and hearing impaired listeners have shown significant i...

Noise Reduction Schemes for Digital Hearing Aids and their Use for the Hearing Impaired

The aim of this thesis is to improve both the assessment methods and the available algorithms for noise reduction in hearing aids. In particular, the whole development chain from the construction of algorithms, subjective assessment of algorithmic performance by normal-hearing and hearing-impaired listeners as well as objective assessment methods is considered. The speech pause detection algori...

Neural networks for speech separation for binaural hearing aids

This paper deals with the use of neural networks for separating speech from other noisy sources in binaural hearing aids. In sound separation systems implemented in binaural hearing aids, the right and left hearing aids need to transmit to each other some parameters involved in the speech separation algorithm. The problem is that this transmission reduces the battery life, which is one of the m...
