Printed in Nigeria MOLECULAR SURVEY OF FRESHWATER SNAIL INTERMEDIATE HOSTS OF IN NORTHERN PENINSULAR MALAYSIA

This study aimed at incorporating current molecular techniques into epidemiologic surveillance for schistosomiasis, particularly in reportedly low transmission areas of peninsular Malaysia. Snail sampling was conducted in five location Bukit, Baling, Kedah State, northern peninsular Malaysia. were collected: Kampung Tanjung, Mukim Kampung Sekolah, Pulai (n = 125), Carok Carok Teluk Teduri, Mukim Tanjung Mukim Pulai (n = 6), Kilang Carok Belantek, Mukim MukimPulaiKampung (n = 12)] identification and also screening for locations; Kampung Tanjung, Mukim Kampung (n = 14) and Carok identified as Robertsiellas ilvicola PCR amplification of the snails’ the 21 snails was positive for Belantek, Mukim Pulai Kampung than in other locations sampled in this study, because the stream was shallower and more gently flowing, thus making human water contact with such streams very likely.
