چکیده

The direct simulation Monte Carlo (DSMC) method is a versatile computational technique capable of simulating a wide range of gas ows. It can compute from the continuum to the rar-eeed regime. It is a molecular simulation method and consequently it can model complex thermo-chemical physics with relative ease. Unfortunately the method is computationally expensive in terms of memory and compute time. However the method is suitable for parallelisation in a multi-processor (MP) environment. An implementation of DSMC for MP environments using a domain decomposition technique and unstructured grids is presented. The domain decomposition technique leads to load balance problems across the processor array. This is alleviated by the implementation of an adap-tive domain decomposition technique, which is described and set in context against other mesh partitioners. The technique is illustrated with an example.

A Parallel DSMC Implementation on Unstructured

The direct simulation Monte Carlo (DSMC) method is versatile computational technique suitable for the simulation of a wide range of gas ows. It can deal with thermo-chemical non-equilibrium eeects with relative ease. However its computational cost has limited its application to rareeed or simple transitional ows. However DSMC is well suited to implementation on powerful multi-processor architec...

PID feedback for load-balanced parallel gridless DSMC

Parallel code presents a non-trivial problem of load balancing computational workload throughout a system of hardware and software resources. The task of load balancing is further complicated when the number of allowable processors changes through time. This paper presents a two-component load-balancing mechanism using optimal initial workload distribution and dynamic load maintenance. The init...

The Direct Simulation Monte Carlo (DSMC) Method is the most suitable method for the simulation of rareeed and micro-scale gas ows. The method has been used in a wide range of applications incorporating complex geometries and thermodynamical-chemical non-equilibrium. The method is however, computationally intensive and its application to more complex and dense problems is hampered by current ser...
