چکیده

Regarding classical rehabilitation techniques, there is insufficient evidence to state that a particular approach is more effective in promoting gait recovery than robotic devices. More constraining devices, such as Lokomat, could be helpful at the beginning of rehabilitation and with more severely affected patients, whereas end-effector devices and then treadmill gait training with body weight support, could be more effective in more advanced stages of rehabilitation and/or in less affected patients. Robotic devices need further research to show their suitability for walking training and their effects on over-ground gait.

Does robot-assisted gait rehabilitation improve balance in stroke patients? A systematic review.

The aim of this systematic review was to summarize the improvements in balance after robot-assisted gait training (RAGT) in stroke patients. Two databases were searched: PubMed and Web of Knowledge. The most important key words are "stroke," "RAGT," "balance," "Lokomat," and "gait trainer." Studies were included if stroke patients were involved in RAGT protocols, and balance was determined as a...

Robot-assisted Therapy in Stroke Rehabilitation

Research into rehabilitation robotics has grown rapidly and the number of therapeutic rehabilitation robots has expanded dramatically during the last two decades. Robotic rehabilitation therapy can deliver high-dosage and high-intensity training, making it useful for patients with motor disorders caused by stroke or spinal cord disease. Robotic devices used for motor rehabilitation include end-...

Video-Based System for Support of Robot-Enhanced Gait Rehabilitation of Stroke Patients

We present a dedicated video-based monitoring system for quantification of patient’s attention to visual feedback during robot assisted gait rehabilitation. Two different approaches for eye gaze and head pose tracking are tested and compared. Several metrics for assessment of patient’s attention are also presented. Experimental results with healthy volunteers demonstrate that unobtrusive video-...

Robot-assisted walking vs overground walking in stroke patients: an evaluation of muscle activity.

OBJECTIVE There is increasing evidence that robot-assisted treadmill training might be useful for gait rehabilitation after stroke. The aim of this study was to evaluate the muscle activity of stroke patients during robot-assisted walking and overground walking, and of a group of able-bodied subjects during overground walking. DESIGN Case-control observational study. SUBJECTS Ten stroke sub...
