simulated environment, typically in an interactive 3D format. The rich social media data generated in virtual worlds has important implications for business, education, social science, and society at large. Similarly, massively multiplayer online games (MMOGs) have become increasingly popular and have online communities comprising tens of millions of players. They serve as unprecedented tools for theorizing about and empirically modeling the social and behavioral dynamics of individuals, groups, and networks within large communities.1–3 Some technologists consider virtual worlds and MMOGs to be likely candidates to become the Web 3.0. In such a “brave new world” of diverse online virtual civilizations, we believe AI can play a signifi cant role, from multiagent avatar research and immersive virtual interface design to virtual world and MMOG Web mining and computational social science modeling.

Learning in the Virtual World: the Pedagogical Potentials of Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Games
A much more attractive way to use the internet was discovered. Users are represented by avatars in the fantasy persistent 3D world, and the avatars apparently come to occupy a special place in the hearts of their creators (Castronova, 2001). At present, millions of people worldwide have accounts to some kind of virtual environments. Virtual world may soon become the primary venue for all online...

Massively Multiplayer Online Games and Virtual Worlds are among the most popular applications on the Internet. As player numbers increase, the limits of the currently dominant client/server architecture are becoming obvious. In this paper we propose a new distributed event dissemination protocol for Virtual Worlds and MMOGs. This protocol is based upon the idea of mutual notification: All playe...
