Delay Analysis for Real-time and Non Real-time Traffic Streams under a Priority Cell Scheduling

چکیده
In this paper, we consider a priority cell scheduling in the following scenario. High-speed cell networks accommodate Constant Bit Rate (CBR) streams from real-time sources and Unspecified Bit Rate (UBR) streams from non real-time sources. The realtime traffic requires guarantees of its delay time. On the other hand, the non real-time traffic is relatively tolerable to its delay time. We obtain the queueing delay distribution of cells from CBR streams. Further the average queueing delay of cells from UBR streams is obtained in some special cases. We provide some numerical results and discuss the effectiveness of qualitg-of-service (QoS) guarantees based on the statistical bound and the influence of UBR streams on the system performance.

Priority queues have a great importance in the study of computer communication networks in which different types of traffic require different quality of service standards. The discrete-time non-preemptive priority queuing model with priority jumps is proposed in this paper. On the basis of probability generating functions mean system contents and mean queuing delay characteristics are obtained....
متن کاملPerformance evaluation of threshold-based ATM cell scheduling policies under Markov modulated Poisson traffic using stochastic Petri nets
This paper addresses the modelling and evaluation of cell scheduling policies in ATM multiplexers using stochastic Petri nets. In particular, we compare four cell scheduling policies: a FIFO policy with and without non-preemptive priorities, a threshold priority policy as recently proposed by Lee and Sengupta, and an extension thereof. The aim of this paper is twofold. First, we want to stress ...

In this paper, we propose a framework for real-time multimedia transmission in asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) networks using an efficient traffic scheduling scheme called multilayer gated frame queueing (MGFQ). MGFQ employs only one set of FIFO queues to provide a wide range of QoS for real-time applications. We also propose special cell formats for real-time multimedia transport and a hybrid...
متن کاملA Non-Preemptive Two-Class M/M/1 System with Prioritized Real-Time Jobs under Earliest-Deadline-First Policy
This paper introduces an analytical method for approximating the performance of a two-class priority M/M/1 system. The system is fully non-preemptive. More specifically, the prioritized class-1 jobs are real-time and served with the non-preemptive earliest-deadline-first (EDF) policy, but despite their priority cannot preempt any non real-time class-2 job. The waiting class-2 jobs can only be s...
