Multidimensional Schemas Quality Assessment

چکیده
A data warehouse is a database focused on decision making. It is built separately from the transactional (OLTP) databases of the enterprise, although it is partly fed from transactional data. Data warehouses are typically accessed by decision makers using OLAP tools, based on a specific, multidimensional representation of data. Considering the strategic importance of data warehouses, the quality of these systems is crucial. Moreover, since OLAP tool users directly access multidimensional schemas, multidimensional schemas quality is a key aspect of data warehouse quality. This paper focuses on the quality of multidimensional schemas. We present the underlying multidimensional model and the multidimensional schemas quality evaluation framework, which considers three views corresponding to three types of users: the specification view (data warehouse designer), the usage view (decision maker) and the implementation view (data warehouse developer). Concentrating on the specification view, we present and exemplify criteria and metrics pertaining to this view.

Multidimensional Design by Examples
In this paper we present a method to validate user multidimensional requirements expressed in terms of SQL queries. Furthermore, our approach automatically generates and proposes the set of multidimensional schemas satisfying the user requirements, from the organizational operational schemas. If no multidimensional schema is generated for a query, we can state that requirement is not multidimen...
متن کاملMDBE: Automatic Multidimensional Modeling
The goal of this demonstration is to present MDBE, a tool implementing our methodology for automatically deriving multidimensional schemas from relational sources, bearing in mind the end-user requirements. Our approach starts gathering the end-user information requirements that will be mapped over the data sources as SQL queries. Based on the constraints that a query must preserve to make mult...
متن کاملMonitoring and assessment of a eutrophicated coastal lake using multivariate approaches
Multivariate statistical techniques such as cluster analysis, multidimensional scaling and principal component analysis were applied to evaluate the temporal and spatial variations in water quality data set generated for two years (2008-2010) from six monitoring stations of Veli-Akkulam Lake and compared with a regional reference lake Vellayani of south India. Seasonal variations of 14 differen...
متن کاملSAMSTARplus: An Automatic Tool for Generating Multi- Dimensional Schemas from an Entity-Relationship Diagram
This paper presents a tool that automatically generates multidimensional schemas for data warehouses from OLTP entity-relationship diagrams (ERDs). Based on user’s input parameters, it generates star schemas, snowflake schemas, or a fact constellation schema by taking advantage of only structural information of input ERDs. Hence, SAMSTARplus can help users reduce efforts for designing data ware...
متن کاملRedefining Software Quality Metrics to XML Schema Needs
The structure and content of XML schemas, important and widely used document definitions, has a significant influence on the quality of XML data and XML technologies in general, therefore the quality of XML Schemas and accurate assessment of the quality is a fundamental research challenge in all fields of XML application. A good quality estimation of an XML schema can directly and indirectly le...
