Case Study: Using Protege to Convert the Travel Ontology to UML and OWL
نویسنده
چکیده
Our goal was to evaluate the import/export capabilities of Protégé between various ontology file formats. As a starting point, we chose the Travel ontology used for the Protégé experiment from the previous EON workshop. We exported this into UML, from where we could import most of the ontology into the mainstream software development tool Poseidon. Furthermore, we exported the ontology into OWL. The resulting OWL file could be processed by the OWL Species Validator. All transformations maintained the structure of the ontology without problems but could not handle all of the model semantics correctly.

A Comparison of UML and OWL in the Travel Domain
Recent research has focused towards determining the efficacy of using UML as an ontology modelling language [6, 7, 8, 12]. In this paper we compare the use of UML with the Web Ontology Language – OWL for modelling the travel domain. One conclusion resulting from this study is that OWL and UML were devised with different motivations, and for supporting different types of application domains. Owl...
متن کاملAn Executive Approach Based On the Production of Fuzzy Ontology Using the Semantic Web Rule Language Method (SWRL)
Today, the need to deal with ambiguous information in semantic web languages is increasing. Ontology is an important part of the W3C standards for the semantic web, used to define a conceptual standard vocabulary for the exchange of data between systems, the provision of reusable databases, and the facilitation of collaboration across multiple systems. However, classical ontology is not enough ...
متن کاملSupporting Early Adoption of OWL 1.1 with Protege-OWL and FaCT++
This paper describes integrated tools support for OWL 1.1 in the form of the FaCT++ Description Logic reasoner and the ProtégéOWL ontology editor. Challenges of designing and implementing OWL 1.1 reasoning algorithms are highlighted, and an outline of an OWL 1.1 API and editing environment is provided.
متن کاملModeling OWL with Rules: The ROWL Protege Plugin
In our experience, some ontology users find it much easier to convey logical statements using rules rather than OWL (or description logic) axioms. Based on recent theoretical developments on transformations between rules and description logics, we develop ROWL, a Protégé plugin that allows users to enter OWL axioms by way of rules; the plugin then automatically converts these rules into OWL DL ...
متن کاملTowards Reusable Explanation Services in Protege
We present several extensions of the explanation facility of the ontology editor Protege. Currently, explanations of OWL entailments in Protege are provided as justifications—minimal subsets of axioms that entail the given axiom. The plugin called ‘explanation workbench’ computes justifications using a black-box algorithm and displays them in a convenient way. Recently, several other (mostly gl...
