56 . Dissimilation of Phosphoglyceric Acid by Escherichia coli
نویسنده
چکیده
Still [1940] compared the triosephosphate dehydrogenase of Escherichia -coli with the corresponding enzyme in yeast, and Utter & Werkman [1941] similarly compared the enzymes aldolase and isomerase of E. coli with those in miiscle and yeast. This communication extends this line of investigation to the reactions involving phosphoglyceric acid. Embden, Deuticke & Kraft [1933] and Meyerhof & Kiessling [1933] showed that (-)3-phosphoglyceric acid was converted into pyruvic acid and phosphoric acidin muscle and Lohmann & Meyerhof [1934] established phosphopyruvic acid as an inter-. mediate. Further investigations by Meyerhof & Kiessling [1934; 1935.a, b] disclosed still another intermediate, (+ )2-phosphoglyceric acid. The series of, reactions may be represented: phosphoglyceromutase (-)3-phosphoglyceric acid (+ )2-phosphoglyceric acid, enolase (+ )2-phosphoglyceric acid = phosphopyruvic acid phosphopyruvic acid pyruvic acid+ H3P04.

Anaerobic glycolysis by enzyme preparations of Brucella suis.
The applicability to bacteria of the Embden-Meyerhof scheme of carbohydrate dissimilation has been investigated by many workers, but evidence for the occurrence of phosphorylated hexose intermediates in anaerobic glycolysis by bacteria has been incomplete and indirect. Virtanen and Tikka (1) isolated what they believed to be a hexose monophosphate from a system containing phosphate, glucose, an...
متن کاملAntibiotic Resistance Patterns in Enteric and Uropathogenic Strains of Escherichia Coli in Children
Abstract Background and Objective: Escherichia coli is the most common cause of urinary tract infections in children and the leading cause of intra-abdominal infections (peritonitis and abscess) followed intestinal injuries. Urinary tract infection, including cystitis and pyelonephritis, is a common childhood infection. E. coli causes more than 90 percent of the community acquired and 50% of ho...
متن کاملEfficient synthesis of L-lactic acid from glycerol by metabolically engineered Escherichia coli
BACKGROUND Due to its abundance and low-price, glycerol has become an attractive carbon source for the industrial production of value-added fuels and chemicals. This work reports the engineering of E. coli for the efficient conversion of glycerol into L-lactic acid (L-lactate). RESULTS Escherichia coli strains have previously been metabolically engineered for the microaerobic production of D-...

Bacteriol. 83:679-687. 1962.-This study of glycolate-adapted Escherichia coli indicates that the most probable route for utilization of the substrate includes glyceric acid, 3-phosphoglyceric acid, and the tricarboxylic acid cycle. A glyceric acid dehydrogen...
متن کاملSurvival of Escherichia coli O157:H7 and Listeria monocytogenes in Doogh, A Traditional Iranian Dairy Beverage
Background: Unlike industrially production, Iranian traditional doogh are not pasteurized after production. Hence, possible contamination with different pathogenic bacteria may occur during production or post-production of traditional doogh. The aim of the present study was to monitor the behavior of Escherichia coli O157:H7 and Listeria monocytogenes in traditional Iranian doogh at different t...
