چکیده

Eight euthyroid subjects were administered 500ƒÊg of thyrotropin-releasing hormone intravenously before and after the administration of 10mg potassium iodide daily for 7 days. Basal serum concentrations of TSH and the response of TSH to TRH were significantly increased following iodide treatment, while serum levels of T4 and T3 did not differ significantly. It is suggested that the administration of 10mg/day of

Effects of low dose oral iodide supplementation on thyroid function in normal men.

Previous studies have demonstrated that short-term oral iodide administration, in doses ranging from 1500 micrograms to 250 mg/day, has an inhibitory effect on thyroid hormone secretion in normal men. As iodide intake in the USA may be as high as 800 micrograms/d, we investigated the effects of very low dose iodide supplementation on thyroid function. Thirty normal men aged 22-40 years were ran...

Congenital hypothyroidism from complete iodide transport defect: long-term evolution with iodide treatment.

Hypothyroidism from iodide transport deficiency is a rare disease, especially when found in two affected siblings. Treatment with high doses of iodide has been recommended, but no long term results have been reported. Two siblings with congenital hypothyroidism due to total failure to transport iodide have been followed up during twelve and a half years of treatment with oral potassium iodide. ...

Pseudohypoparathyroidism type Ia and growth hormone deficiency. Growth hormone releasing hormone receptor defect?

We report a boy with pseudohypoparathyroidism (PHP), hypothyroidism and low growth hormone (GH) values with no response to growth hormone releasing hormone (GHRH). He presented at age 17 mo because of developmental delay. He had the typical features (short stature, obesity, round face, brachydactyly) of Albright's hereditary osteodystrophy (AHO) and the biochemical profile of PHP; low serum cal...

Effects of marginal iodine deficiency during pregnancy: iodide uptake by the maternal and fetal thyroid.

Iodide uptake by the thyroid is an active process. Iodine deficiency and pregnancy are known to influence thyroid hormone metabolism. The aim of this study was to clarify the effects of iodine deficiency and pregnancy on iodide uptake by the thyroid. Radioiodide was injected intravenously into nonpregnant and 19-day pregnant rats receiving a normal or marginally iodine-deficient diet. The uptak...
