چکیده

We are very grateful for the interest Marchiori et al. have shown in our recently submitted article, Airway and parenchymal manifestations of pulmonary aspergillosis [1]. We also read with interest their fascinating study highlighting morphologic features of the reverse halo sign, which in the correct clinical context, may alert the radiologist to the presence of a possible invasive fungal infection [2]. Although the reverse halo sign is a nonspecific CT sign, seen in a variety of different disease entities [3], the work of Marchiori et al. clearly demonstrates that in immunocompromised patients, this broad differential diagnosis can be distilled to the correct diagnosis and impact management decisions and outcome. These observations are clearly of great help to more general thoracic radiologists working outside transplant centres, who may have less experience

The diagnostic value of halo and reversed halo signs for invasive mold infections in compromised hosts.

The halo sign is a CT finding of ground-glass opacity surrounding a pulmonary nodule or mass. The reversed halo sign is a focal rounded area of ground-glass opacity surrounded by a crescent or complete ring of consolidation. In severely immunocompromised patients, these signs are highly suggestive of early infection by an angioinvasive fungus. The halo sign and reversed halo sign are most commo...

Angioinvasive pulmonary aspergillosis after allogeneic bone marrow transplantation: clinical and high-resolution computed tomography findings in 12 cases.

The aim of this study was to present the clinical and high-resolution CT scan findings of angioinvasive pulmonary aspergillosis (APA) in 12 patients who underwent allogeneic bone marrow transplantation (BMT). The CT scans were reviewed by three chest radiologists who assessed the pattern and distribution of findings by consent. There were 7 (58%) female and 5 (42%) male patients, with aging bet...

The Reversed Halo Sign: Another Atypical Manifestation of Sarcoidosis

We read with great interest the well-written and informative pictorial essay by Park et al. (1), which reviews the thoracic manifestations of sarcoidosis, classifying them as typical and atypical. They indicate that the less frequent and unusual manifestations may be observed in 25% to 30% of cases, emphasizing the difficulty to differentiate sarcoidosis from other diseases, and the importance ...
