A Countermeasure against Spoofing and DoS Attacks based on Message Sequence and Temporary ID in CAN

چکیده
The development of Information and Communications Technologies (ICT) has affected various fields including the automotive industry. Therefore, vehicle network protocols such as Controller Area Network (CAN), Local Interconnect Network (LIN), and FlexRay have been introduced. Although CAN is the most widely used for vehicle network protocol, its security issue is not properly addressed. In this paper, we propose a security gateway, an improved version of existing CAN gateways, to protect CAN from spoofing and DoS attacks. We analyze sequence of messages based on the driver’s behavior to resist against spoofing attack and utilize a temporary ID and SipHash algorithm to resist against DoS attack. For the verification of our proposed method, OMNeT++ is used. The suggested method shows high detection rate and low increase of traffic. Also, analysis of frame drop rate during DoS attack shows that our suggested method can defend DoS attack.

متن کاملThreshold Implementation as a Countermeasure against Power Analysis Attacks
One of the usual ways to find sensitive data or secret parameters of cryptographic devices is to use their physical leakages. Power analysis is one of the attacks which lay in such a model. In comparison with other types of side-channels, power analysis is so efficient and has a high success rate. So it is important to provide a countermeasure against it. Different types of countermeasures use ...
متن کاملA new CPA resistant software implementation for symmetric ciphers with smoothed power consumption: SIMON case study
In this paper we propose a new method for applying hiding countermeasure against CPA attacks. This method is for software implementation, based on smoothing power consumption of the device. This method is evaluated on the SIMON scheme as a case study; however, it is not relying on any specific SIMON features. Our new method includes only AND equivalent and XOR equivalent operations since every ...
متن کاملLBP - TOP Based Countermeasure against Face Spoofing Attacks
User authentication is an important step to protect information and in this field face biometrics is advantageous. Face biometrics is natural, easy to use and less human-invasive. Unfortunately, recent work has revealed that face biometrics is vulnerable to spoofing attacks using low-tech cheap equipments. This article presents a countermeasure against such attacks based on the LBP −TOP operato...
متن کاملSecurecast: Multicast Based Protection Against Denial of Service Attacks
In this paper, we introduce a proactive mechanism to protect Internet hosts against network based denial of service (DoS) attacks. We give Internet hosts an ability to explicitly control who to communicate with and therefore avoid potential DoS attacks coming from the others over the Internet. Our approach depends on the availability of the Source Specific Multicast (SSM) service in the Interne...
