Optimal Design of Opamps for Oversampled Converters

چکیده
The power consumption for various opamps used in modulators are considered. We rst classify the diierent opamp topologies used in such modulators. We then develop a generalized in-tegrator model that allows us to compare the power consumption for all these topologies. We also derive an expression for the minimum theoretical bound on the power dissipation. We illustrate our results with two design examples: a class A and a class AB opamp. It is shown that class A opamps are the best choice for modulators.

Power Analysis and Optimal Design of Opamps for Oversampled Converters
In this paper, we address three issues related to the design of opamps for oversampled converters: the theoretical minimum-power bound for an ideal opamp, the best opamp choice in terms of power dissipation, and the best design strategy to reduce power dissipation. To be able to do so, we develop a model that captures the dynamics of the integrator inside the modulator. Based on this model, pow...
متن کاملDesign Challenges of Analog-to-Digital Converters in Nanoscale CMOS
This paper discusses issues in the design of analog-todigital converters (ADCs) in nanoscale CMOS and introduces some experimental designs incorporating techniques to solve these issues. Technology scaling increases the maximum conversion rate, but it decreases the gain and the SNR. To maintain a high SNR level despite the lowvoltage operation, the power consumption needs to be increased. Becau...

Novel techniques for multi-bit oversampled data conversion are described. State-of-the-art oversampled data converters are analyzed, leading to the conclusion that their performance is limited mainly by low-resolution signal representation. To increase the resolution, high-performance, high-resolution internal D/A converters are required. Unit-element mismatch-shaping D/A converters are analyze...

Oversampled analog-to-digital ( A D ) converter architectures offer a means of exchanging resolution in time for that in amplitude so as to avoid the difficulty of implementing complex precision analog circuits. These architectures thus represent an attractive approach to implementing precision A/D converters in scaled digital VLSI technologies. This paper examines the practical design criteria...
متن کاملNoise , Speed , and Power Trade - offs in Pipelined Analog to Digital Converters
Power dissipation is becoming an increasingly important issue in the design of analog to digital converters as signal processing systems move into applications requiring either portability, or as in the case of some telecommunications applications, a high degree of parallelism. This research focuses on minimizing power dissipation in high resolution pipelined analog to digital converters, which...
