Atomic data and electron-impact broadening effect in DO white dwarf atmospheres: Si VI

چکیده
Energy levels, electric dipole transition probabilities and oscillator strengths in five times ionized silicon have been calculated in intermediate coupling. The present calculations were carried out with the general purpose atomic-structure program SUPERSTRUCTURE. The relativistic corrections to the non-relativistic Hamiltonian are taken into account through the Breit-Pauli approximation. We have also introduced a semi-empirical correction (TEC) for the calculation of the energy-levels. These atomic data are used to provide semiclassical electron-, protonand ionized heliumimpact line widths and shifts for 15 Si VI muliplet. Calculated results have been used to consider the influence of Stark broadening for DO white dwarf atmospheric conditions.

The electron-impact broadening effect in hot star atmospheres: The case of singly- and doubly-ionized zirconium
The electron-impact widths for 30 Zr III lines were calculated using the modified semi-empirical (MSE) method. For two Zr II and four Zr III astrophysically important UV lines, only electron-impact widths are given, since for their calculation the experimental oscillator strengths were used and consequently the accuracy of the parameters is lower than in the case of other lines. The influence o...
متن کاملRotation velocities of white dwarfs III. DA stars with convective atmospheres
The sharp Hα NLTE line cores of hydrogen-rich (DA) white dwarfs allow their projected rotational velocities to be determined. High resolution optical spectra of 22 stars obtained with the Keck I telescope are matched by synthetic spectra computed from a grid of NLTE model atmospheres. In this paper, the third in a series on white dwarf rotation, we concentrate preferentially on DA white dwarfs ...
متن کاملThe Pseudo-continuum Bound-free Opacity of Hydrogen and its Importance in Cool White Dwarf Atmospheres
We investigate the importance of the pseudo-continuum bound-free opacity from hydrogen atoms in the atmospheres of cool white dwarfs. This source of absorption, when calculated by the occupation probability formalism applied in the modeling of white dwarf atmospheres with Teff < 17000K, dominates all other sources of opacity at optical wavelengths. This is unrealistic and not observed. On the o...
متن کاملBaltic Astronomy, vol. 20, 511–515, 2011 STARK BROADENING OF CARBON AND OXYGEN LINES IN HOT DQ WHITE DWARF STARS: RECENT RESULTS AND APPLICATIONS
White dwarf stars are traditionally found to have surface compositions made primarily of hydrogen or helium. However, a new family has recently been uncovered, the so-called hot DQ white dwarfs, which have surface compositions dominated by carbon and oxygen with little or no trace of hydrogen and helium (Dufour et al. 2007, 2008, 2010). Deriving precise atmospheric parameters for these objects ...
متن کاملRadiative transfer in the refractive atmospheres of very cool white dwarfs
We consider the problem of radiative transfer in stellar atmospheres where the index of refraction departs from unity and is a function of density and temperature. We present modified Feautrier and Lambda-iteration methods to solve the equation of radiative transfer with refraction in a plane parallel atmosphere. These methods are general and can be used in any problem with 1-D geometry where t...
