20. Cone-in-cone and Beef-in-shale Textures from Dsdp Site 330, Falkland Plateau, South Atlantic

چکیده
Sediments of Late Jurassic to Early Cretaceous age, overlying a continental gneissic basement, were sampled in fifteen cores at Site 330, Falkland Plateau. Thin limestone bands occur at intervals throughout much of the succession represented by Cores 3 through 14. Many of the limestones, which vary in thickness from two or three centimeters to several tens of centimeters, are characterized by secondary recrystallization features commonly known as "cone-in-cone" and "beef-in-shale." These features are particularly well developed in some of the limestone bands of Oxfordian-Kimmeridgian age between Cores 5 and 10 where the intervening olive-black sapropelic claystones have a relativley high organic carbon content (ca 5%). We record some of the textural relationships observed and comment briefly on their origin. Samples for petrographic examination were prepared by smooth grinding the split core sections and etching them with dilute acid to accentuate the shale partings. Some of the more interesting features were later studied in thin section.

Cenozoic reactivation of the Great Glen Fault , Scotland : Additional
13 The Great Glen Fault (GGF) trends NNE-SSW across northern Scotland. According to 14 previous studies, the GGF developed as a left-lateral strike slip fault during the Caledonian 15 Orogeny (Ordovician to Early Devonian). However, it then reactivated right-laterally in the 16 Tertiary. We discuss additional evidence for this later phase. At Eathie and Shandwick, minor 17 folds and faults in f...

[1] We present a high-resolution paleoceanographic record of deglaciation based on diatom assemblages from a core located just south of the Polar Front in the southwest Atlantic. Core KC073 is from a sediment drift at the mouth of the Falkland Trough and contains sediments from the Last Glacial Maximum (LGM) to present, dated using radiocarbon dates on bulk organic matter and radiolarian strati...
متن کاملWaveform Design using Second Order Cone Programming in Radar Systems
Transmit waveform design is one of the most important problems in active sensing and communication systems. This problem, due to the complexity and non-convexity, has been always the main topic of many papers for the decades. However, still an optimal solution which guarantees a global minimum for this multi-variable optimization problem is not found. In this paper, we propose an attracting met...
متن کاملPlanktic Foraminiferal Species Turnover across Deep-sea Aptian/ Albian Boundary Sections
A major planktic foraminiferal species turnover accompanied by a dramatic reduction in shell size, a fundamental change in shell architecture, and a precipitous drop in the abundance of planktic relative to benthic species occurs across the Aptian/Albian boundary interval (AABI) at globally distributed deep-sea sections. Extinction of the large and distinctive planktic foraminifer Paraticinella...
متن کاملCone-in-cone and beef mineralization associated with Triassic growth basin faulting and shallow shale diagenesis, Edgeøya, Svalbard
Cone-in-cone (CIC) and beef (BF) carbonate lenses ornament detachment zone faults underlying Triassic growth basins on Edgeøya. Field relationships place CIC and BF growth as during early diagenesis and a transition from hydroplastic to a later brittle-style of faulting that is marked by coarser calcite veining. Deformation is constrained to have occurred at<300 m depth. Multiple models exist f...
