Automated Negotiation and Bundling of Information Goods
نویسندگان
چکیده
In this paper, we present a novel system for selling bundles of news items. Through the system, customers bargain with the seller over the price and quality of the delivered goods. The advantage of the developed system is that it allows for a high degree of flexibility in the price, quality, and content of the offered bundles. The price, quality, and content of the delivered goods may, for example, differ based on daily dynamics and personal interest of customers. Autonomous “software agents” execute the negotiation on behalf of the users of the system. To perform the actual negotiation these agents make use of bargaining strategies. We present the novel approach of disentangling bargaining strategies into concession strategies and Pareto efficient search strategies. We show through computer experiments that this approach will result in very efficient bargaining outcomes. Moreover, the system is setup such that it is actually in the best interest of the customer to have their agent adhere to this bargaining approach.

Toward Automated Pricing and Bundling of Information Goods
The introduction of electronic means of sale and dissemination of information goods has made a new set of pricing and bundling strategies possible. In particular, information goods have a negligible marginal cost. This provides producers with an incentive to sell goods in bundles. This new space of strategies also presents producers with a set of problems to solve. In most cases, a producer wil...
متن کاملPricing strategies for information goods
Digital or information goods are becoming the norm across a wide variety of industries including books, music, entertainment, gaming and education. Due to the fact that the marginal cost of producing or reproducing information goods is very low, it is much easier to customise and personalise them for individual users. Furthermore, sellers of these information goods are increasingly using bundli...
متن کاملBundling Information Goods: Pricing, Profits and Efficiency
Internet-based technologies such as micropayments increasingly enable the sale and delivery of small units of information. This paper draws attention to the opposite strategy of bundling a large number of information goods, such as those increasingly available on the Internet, for a fixed price that does not depend on how many goods are actually used by the buyer. We analyze the optimal bundlin...
متن کاملBundling with Customer Self-Selection: A Simple Approach to Bundling Low-Marginal-Cost Goods
The reduction in distribution costs of digital products has renewed interest in strategies for pricing goods with low marginal costs. In this paper, we evaluate the concept of customized bundling in which consumers can choose up to a quantity M of goods drawn from a larger pool of N different goods (N>M) for a fixed price. We show that the complex mixed bundle problem can be reduced to the cust...
متن کاملThe provision and pricing of excludable public goods: Ramsey-Boiteux Pricing versus bundling
This paper studies the relation between Bayesian mechanism design and the Ramsey-Boiteux approach to the provision and pricing of excludable public goods. For a large economy with private information about individual preferences, the two approaches are shown to be equivalent if and only if, in addition to incentive compatibility and participation constraints, the nal allocation of private-good...
