چکیده

MAGIC has been performing optically triggered Target of Opportunity observations of flaring blazars since the beginning of its scientific operations. The alerts of flaring blazars originate from Tuorla blazar monitoring program, which started the optical monitoring of the candidate TeV blazars in 2002 and has now collected up to six years of data on 30 blazars. These Target of Opportunity observations have resulted in the discovery of three new VHE γray emitting blazars (Mrk 180, 1ES 1011+496 and S5 0716+714) and in addition the discoveries of BL Lac and 3C 279 were made during a high optical state. In this talk we present a detailed analysis of the optical light curves which are then compared to MAGIC observations of the same sources. We aim to answer the question ”Is there a connection between optical and VHE gamma-ray high states in blazars or have we just been lucky?”

Discovery of very high energy gamma-ray emission from the blazar 1ES 1727+502 with the MAGIC Telescopes

Motivated by the Costamante & Ghisellini (2002) predictions we investigated if the blazar 1ES 1727+502 (z = 0.055) is emitting very high energy (VHE, E>100 GeV) γ rays. We observed the BL Lac object 1ES 1727+502 in stereoscopic mode with the two MAGIC telescopes during 14 nights between May 6th and June 10th 2011, for a total effective observing time of 12.6 hours. For the study of the multiwav...

Simultaneous multi - frequency observations of PG 1553 + 113

We report simultaneous multi-frequency observations of the blazar PG 1553+113, that were carried out in March-April 2008. Optical, X-ray, high-energy (HE: ≥ 100 MeV) γ-ray, and very-highenergy (VHE: ≥ 100 GeV) γ-ray data were obtained with the KVA, REM, RossiXTE/ASM, AGILE and MAGIC telescopes. This is the first simultaneous broad-band (i.e., HE+VHE) γ-ray observation of a blazar. The source sp...

VHE γ-rays From Extragalactic Large Scale Jets

We discuss production of very high energy (VHE) γ-rays in large scale extragalactic jets of FR I sources. Based on recent optical and X-ray observations of these objects we evaluate their VHE emission in a framework of one electron population model. We consider possibility for detection of the predicted radiation, which could provide important constraints on the jet structure and some hardly kn...

Discovery of VHE γ-rays from the blazar 1ES 1215+303 with the MAGIC Telescopes and simultaneous multi-wavelength observations

Context. We present the discovery of very high energy (VHE, E> 100 GeV) γ-ray emission from the BL Lac object 1ES 1215+303 by the MAGIC telescopes and simultaneous multi-wavelength data in a broad energy range from radio to γ-rays. Aims. We study the VHE γ-ray emission from 1ES 1215+303 and its relation to the emissions in other wavelengths. Methods. Triggered by an optical outburst, MAGIC obse...

A First Synoptic Blazar Study Comprising Thirteen Blazars Visible in E > 100 GeV Gamma-Rays

Since 2002, the number of detected blazars at Eγ > 100 GeV has more than doubled. I study all currently known BL Lac-type objects with published energy spectra. Their intrinsic energy spectra are reconstructed by removing extragalactic background light attenuation effects. The emission properties are then compared and correlated among each other, with X-ray data, and with the individual black h...
