چکیده
In chronic hypochromic anaemia the mean pepsin concentration of the gastric juice is reduced and in some patients the enzyme is totally absent (Davies, 1931; Castle, Heath, and Strauss, 1931; Meulengracht, 1932; Hartfall and Witts, 1933; Griffiths, 1934; Mullins and Flood, 1935; Aitken, Spray, and Walters, 1954). Aitken et al. (1954) divide their patients into those with and without achlorhydria. Complete absence of pepsin was found only among the former and the

Fenwick (1870) was the first to discover that patients with pernicious anaemia have a deficiency of gastric pepsin, and this observation has been amply confirmed (Stockton, 1904; Levine and Ladd, 1921 ; Teschendorf, 1927; Faber, 1927; Faber and Holst, 1928 ; Johansen, 1929; Polland and Bloomfield, 1930; Castle, Heath, and Strauss, 1931 ; Davies, 1931 ; Wilkinson, 1932; Helmer, Fouts, and Zerfas...
متن کاملThe iron content of gastric juice: in relation to the cause of idiopathic hypochromic anemia.
Non-hemin iron content in gastric juice was examined in 46 patients with various blood diseases, especially idiopathic hypochromic anemia and in 26 healthy controls. 1. The iron content in gastric juice was found to be 290 μg/ dl in healthy controls, a lower value of 110 μg/ dl in idiopathic hypochromic anemia and a higher value of 550 μg / dl in aplastic anemia. These values were in a close co...

Although the aetiology and pathological significance of chronic atrophic gastritis is still unknown, the incidence of the disorder in normal subjects and in a variety of pathological conditions is becoming known. Coghill (1960), in a full review of the subject, discussed the possible relationship between gastritis and hypochromic anaemia. It has been suggested that the gastric mucosal lesion ma...

متن کاملDetection of latent pernicious anaemia in iron-deficiency anaemia.
It has long been recognized that iron-deficiency anaemia and pernicious anaemia may occur in members of the same family (Faber and Gram, 1924 ; Maclachlan and Kline, 1926 ; Witts, 1930; Kaufmann and Thiessen, 1939). There are also numerous reports of pernicious anaemia developing in patients with a previous history of iron-deficiency anaemia (Callender and Denborough, 1957). More recently, in a...
