چکیده

At the time of this writing, more than 20 000 publications related to ion-selective electrodes (ISEs)1–7 have been published, with approximately two new ones per day in recent years. Figure 1 shows, for the period between 1970 and 2009, the continuing increase in the number of publications that could be readily recognized as reporting on the preparation or use of ionophore-based ISEs. Clearly, this is still a fast growing field. Until the mid 1990s, most of the research in this field focused on the development of new ionophores that provided improved selectivities.4 However, many leading analytical chemists who work in the field have since redirected their attention to an improved understanding of the thermodynamics and kinetics that

Anion-selective membrane electrodes based on metalloporphyrins: The influence of lipophilic anionic and cationic sites on potentiometric selectivity.

The role of lipophilic anionic and cationic additives on the potentiometric anion selectivities of polymer membrane electrodes prepared with various metalloporphyrins as anion selective ionophores is examined. The presence of lipophilic anionic sites (e.g. tetraphenylborate derivatives) is shown to enhance the non-Hofmeister anion selectivities of membranes doped with In(III) and Sn(IV) porphyr...

Improvement of a Phosphate Ion-selective Microsensor Using Bis(dibromophenylstannyl)methane as a Carrier.

An ionophore-doped sensing membrane phosphate (PO4) microsensor based on bis(dibromophenylstannyl)methane (Bis microsensor) is described. The Bis microsensor showed a Nernstian response. The response of the Bis microsensor was log-linear down to a monohydrogen phosphate ion (HPO42-) concentration of 0.5 μM (corresponding to 1.0 μM of orthophosphate at pH 7.2), whereas the detection limit of PO4...

Spectroscopic method for the determination of the ionic site concentration in solvent polymeric membranes and membrane plasticizers.

The built-in site density of either fixed sites or mobile hydrophobic ion sites determines whether a membrane is permselective for cations or anions of the sample. The molar ratio of the ionophore to the intrinsic or added ionic sites in an ion-selective membrane significantly influences the potentiometric response of ionophore-based electrodes. Consequently, full knowledge of the "site invento...

Potentiometric sensors with ion-exchange Donnan exclusion membranes.

Potentiometric sensors that exhibit a non-Hofmeister selectivity sequence are normally designed by selective chemical recognition elements in the membrane. In other situations, when used as detectors in separation science, for example, membranes that respond equally to most ions are preferred. With so-called liquid membranes, a low selectivity is difficult to accomplish since these membranes ar...
