چکیده

In many scenarios, quickly solving a relatively small search problem with an arbitrary start and arbitrary goal state is important (e.g., GPS navigation). In order to speed this process, we introduce a new class of memorybased heuristics, called true distance heuristics, that store true distances between some pairs of states in the original state space can be used for a heuristic between any pair of states. We provide a number of techniques for using and improving true distance heuristics such that most of the benefits of the all-pairs shortest-path computation can be gained with less than 1% of the memory. Experimental results on a number of domains show a 614 fold improvement in search speed compared to tradi-

Chaotic Genetic Algorithm based on Explicit Memory with a new Strategy for Updating and Retrieval of Memory in Dynamic Environments

Many of the problems considered in optimization and learning assume that solutions exist in a dynamic. Hence, algorithms are required that dynamically adapt with the problem’s conditions and search new conditions. Mostly, utilization of information from the past allows to quickly adapting changes after. This is the idea underlining the use of memory in this field, what involves key design issue...

Portal-Based True-Distance Heuristics for Path Finding

True distance memory-based heuristics (TDHs) were recently introduced as a way to obtain admissible heuristics for explicit state spaces. In this paper, we introduce a new TDH, the portal-based heuristic. The domain is partitioned into regions and portals between regions are identified. True distances between all pairs of portals are stored and used to obtain admissible heuristics throughout th...

Automatic Generation of Memory Based Search Heuristics

Our goal is to automatically generate heuristics to guide state space search. The heuristic values are distances computed in an abstract space which is automatically derived from the original space. The search space is described in a production system. Simple syntactic transformations of this description give rise to another search space. The distances of abstract states from the abstract goal ...

This article surveys approaches to cope with limited memory for the design of algorithms and data structures in Artificial Intelligence, since many systems, e.g. in puzzle solving, two-player games, action and route planning, robotics, machine learning, data mining, logic programming and theorem proving, explore very large or even infinite implicitly given state spaces. The main focus is on str...

Implicit Abstraction Heuristics

State-space search with explicit abstraction heuristics is at the state of the art of costoptimal planning. These heuristics are inherently limited, nonetheless, because the size of the abstract space must be bounded by some, even if a very large, constant. Targeting this shortcoming, we introduce the notion of (additive) implicit abstractions , in which the planning task is abstracted by insta...
