Genesis of Nutritional Oedema

war or exploration in polar regions. Keys, et al (1950) and McCance (1951) have recently given a comprehensive historical survey of famine and war cedemas. I have no intention of covering the same ground again. So far as India is concerned, the last experience we had of hunger oedema on a large scale was in the Bengal famine of 1943-1944. Refeeding oedema in anorexia nervosa.
Refeeding oedema in patients with anorexia nervosa is a known but yet under-reported and poorly-understood condition. We illustrate this condition in a 19-year-old girl with anorexia nervosa who developed bipedal oedema after she was started on nutritional therapy. Lean body mass (LBM; measured by three consecutive 24 h creatinine excretions) w...

Two or even more diagnoses have often to be made. The case here reported is an extreme example of this. The patient, an adult male, was admitted to the Carmichael Hospital for Tropical Diseases from the Camp for Sic...

T HE aim of this discussion is to summarize and evaluate evidence for and against the concept that the fat content of the average present-day North American or north European diet is a significant factor in the genesis of cerebral, myocardial, renal, or peripheral atherosclerosis. To date there is no incontrovertible evidence for such a relationship; nevertheless, a strong case is developing to...
