The dynamics of innovation: from National Systems and ‘‘Mode 2’’ to a Triple Helix of university–industry–government relations

چکیده
The Triple Helix of university–industry–government relations is compared with alternative models for explaining the current research system in its social contexts. Communications and negotiations between institutional partners generate an overlay that increasingly reorganizes the underlying arrangements. The institutional layer can be considered as the retention mechanism of a developing system. For example, the national organization of the system of innovation has historically been important in determining competition. Reorganizations across industrial sectors and nation states, however, are induced by Ž . Ž . new technologies biotechnology, ICT . The consequent transformations can be analyzed in terms of neoevolutionary mechanisms. University research may function increasingly as a locus in the ‘‘laboratory’’ of such knowledge-intensive network transitions. q 2000 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.

Background and Aim: The field of medical engineering is the flagship interdisciplinary approach in Iran, which, due to its attention to knowledge-based economy, takes a step towards prosperity and smoothing progress and development. The purpose of this study is to investigate the interactions between university, industry and government of Iran in scientific articles in the field of medical engi...
متن کاملreturn The Triple Helix of University - Industry - Government Relations
The Triple Helix of university-industry-government relations provides a neo-evolutionary model of the process of innovation that is amenable to measurement. Economic exchange, intellectual organization, and geographical constraints can be considered as different dynamics that interact in a knowledge-based economy as a complex system. Differentiation spans the systems of innovation, while perfor...
متن کاملKnowledge-Based Innovation Systems and the Model of a Triple Helix of University-Industry-Government Relations
The (neo-)evolutionary model of a Triple Helix of University-Industry-Government Relations focuses on the overlay of expectations, communications, and interactions that potentially feed back on the institutional arrangements among the carrying agencies. From this perspective, the evolutionary perspective in economics can be complemented with the reflexive turn from sociology. The combination pr...
متن کاملTriple Helix indicators of knowledge-based innovation systems
When two selection environments operate upon each other, mutual shaping in a coevolution along a particular trajectory is one possible outcome. When three selection environments are involved, more complex dynamics can be expected as a result of interactions involving bi-lateral and tri-lateral relations. Three selection environments are specified in the Triple Helix model: (1) wealth generation...
متن کاملTriple Helix Systems: An Analytical Framework for Innovation Policy and Practice in the Knowledge Society
This paper introduces the concept of Triple Helix systems as an analytical construct that systematizes the key features of university-industry-government (Triple Helix) interactions into an ‘innovation system’ format defined according to systems theory as a set of components, relationships and functions. This conceptual framework offers a broad perspective for understanding the sources and deve...
