Hereditary Glaucoma Occurrence in Five Generations of an Edinburgh Family.

چکیده
A REGULAR Mendelian dominant pattern of inheritance is characteristic of so-called juvenile glaucoma and some hundred genealogies have been recorded (Fran9ois, 1961), two-thirds showing one or two affected generations and the other third three to six generations. However, in a condition of such high prevalence as primary glaucoma, two successive affected generations are not sufficient to prove a dominant inheritance, because pseudo-dominance, which occurs in an otherwise recessive pattern as a result of a marriage between a homozygote and heterozygote, can produce a similar picture in the genealogical tree. Juvenile glaucoma is no longer considered to be a separate clinical entity, but occurs either as a late-developing congenital glaucoma or as an early-developing open-angle or closed-angle glaucoma, the open-angle type predominating. The only true juvenile glaucoma is Sugar's pigmentary glaucoma, which is extremely rare. The purpose of this paper is to report on an Edinburgh family in which five generations have been affected by glaucoma in early life, and to record some unusual manifestations of the condition in this genealogy.

Hereditary benign Telangiectasia: Report of 6 cases in a family
Hereditary benign telangiectasia is an uncommon idiopathic skin disorder characterized by generalized telangiectases and angiomatous lesions of the skin. The diagnosis should be suspected in patients with such cutaneous lesions, positive family history, no associated bleeding problems, and no mucosal involvement. We present six cases of hereditary benign telangiectasia in three generations of o...

Hereditary Spherocytosis Unmasked by Human Parvovirus B19 Induced Aplastic Crisis in a Family
Human parvovirus (HPV) B19 induced aplastic crisis in a family leading to the diagnosis of hereditary spherocytosis (HS) is a very rare condition being barely reported in the literature. We herein report a 4-year-old girl, her brother, and their mother who all presented with progressive pallor and jaundice after a febrile illness. The HPV B19 was diagnosed using polymerase chain reaction (PCR) ...

ONLY a few instances of genetic linkage in man have so far been established. One of them is the linkage between hereditary elliptocytosis and the Rh antigens, the genes for which, in some families at least, are both carried on the same chromosome pair (Goodall, Hendry, Lawler, and Stephen, 1953; Marshall, Bird, Bailey, and Beckner, 1954; Morton, 1956; Clark, Donohoe, Finn, McConnell, Sheppard, ...
متن کاملTonographic survey of the close relatives of patients with chronic simple glaucoma.
THAT glaucoma simplex may affect more than one member of a family is well known, but this would usually appear to occur in a sporadic fashion and have no hereditary significance. When true hereditary glaucoma occurs it is found in many members of the same family and is frequently traced over three or four generations. These families are, however, rare and have been well documented (Francois, 19...
