چکیده

The Rb-NH interaction is investigated as a prototype for interactions between alkali metal atoms and stable molecules. For spin-aligned Rb and NH that interact on a quartet surface (A), the interaction is relatively weak, with a well depth of 0.078 eV. However, there are also doublet surfaces of ion-pair character that are very much deeper (well depth 1.372 eV) and may be important for atom molecule collision rates. Similar deeply bound ion-pair states are likely to exist for other alkali atom – molecule pairs. It is shown that a transition to a dipolar superfluid phase will be easier to achieve for low-mass than for high-mass species.

Ultracold hydrogen atoms: a versatile coolant to produce ultracold molecules.

We show theoretically that ultracold hydrogen atoms have very favorable properties for sympathetic cooling of molecules to microkelvin temperatures. We calculate the potential energy surfaces for spin-polarized interactions of H atoms with the prototype molecules NH(3Σ-) and OH(2Π) and show that they are shallow (50 to 80  cm(-1)) and only weakly anisotropic. We carry out quantum collision calc...

Adsorption of Gas Molecules on Graphene Doped with Mono and Dual Boron as Highly Sensitive Sensors and Catalysts

First-principle calculations have been investigated to study the adsorption of the molecules (SO2, CO, NH3, CO2, NO2, and NO) on the surface of mono boron (B) B-doped and dual B-doped graphene sheets to explore their potential applications as sensors. Our findings indicate that the adsorption of (CO and NH3) on B-doped graphene and (CO and ...

Dutta, Sourav Ph.D., Purdue University, December 2013. Experimental Studies of LiRb: Spectroscopy and Ultracold Molecule Formation by Photoassociation. Major Professor: Yong P. Chen. Heteronuclear polar molecules have recently attracted enormous attention owing to their ground state having a large electric dipole moment. The long range anisotropic dipole-dipole interaction in such systems is th...

Ab Initio Studies of Rotation and Solvent Effects for two important membrane molecules: DPPC and DMPC

DPPC (dipalmitoylphosphatidylcholine) and DMPC (dimyristoylphosphatidylcholine) are taken asphospholipids with an equal polar heads and with the difference in the length of hydrocarbonchains. Results obtain from the structural optimization of the isolated DPPC and DMPC in the gasphase, at the Hartree-Fock level of theory by means of STO-3g,3-21G, 6-31G and 6-31G* basissets. the most important d...
