Impact of Runoff Water Quality on Future Nursery Crop

چکیده
changes in the 1980s. Droughts and water regulations required increased use of lowvolume irrigation, severe freezes promoted the use of fabric covers for cold protection, and governmental immigration reform necessitated re-evaluation of personnel resources. Production practices were required that used smaller quantities of fertilizer and pesticides. Additional restrictions limited the disposal of by-products and the use of inputs such as water, which once was taken for granted as an unlimited resource. For the nursery industry to remain profitable, proactive thinking and a futuristic vision must be the focus of the 1990s. No one knows what future restrictions will be imposed, but environmental issues will receive the greatest attention, with water quality and quantity issues as top priorities. Those production practices having an impact on the environment must be identified and modified when needed, but progress can be achieved only by open-minded individuals with a willingness to change.

Water Use and Treatment in Container-Grown Specialty Crop Production: A Review
While governments and individuals strive to maintain the availability of high-quality water resources, many factors can "change the landscape" of water availability and quality, including drought, climate change, saltwater intrusion, aquifer depletion, population increases, and policy changes. Specialty crop producers, including nursery and greenhouse container operations, rely heavily on avail...
متن کاملImpact of Practice Change on Runoff Water Quality and Vegetable Yield—An On-Farm Case Study
Intensive agricultural practices in farming systems in eastern Australia have been identified as a contributor to the poor runoff water quality entering the Great Barrier Reef (GBR). A field investigation was carried out to measure the off-farm water quality and productivity in a coastal farming system in northeastern Australia. Two vegetable crops (capsicum and zucchini) were grown in summer 2...
متن کاملSimulation of the climate change impact on monthly runoff of Dez watershed using IHACRES model
Identification and analysis of flow fluctuations in consequences of climate change is one of the most important factors in water resources management planning and this is vital especially in areas where large crowds are engaged in agriculture. Dez watershed, as an agricultural hub in the country, is one of areas that river flow fluctuations caused by climate change can affect a large population...
متن کاملDesigning management options to reduce surface runoff and sediment yield with farmers: an experiment in south-western France.
To preserve the quality of surface water, official French regulations require farmers to keep a minimum acreage of grassland, especially bordering rivers. These agro-environmental measures do not account for the circulation of water within the catchment. This paper examines whether it is possible to design with the farmers agri-environmental measures at field and catchment scale to prevent soil...
متن کاملModelling pesticide runoff from paddocks in the Great Barrier Reef using HowLeaky
Herbicides applied in cropping in the Great Barrier Reef catchment in Queensland, pose a threat to water quality in riverine environments and the reef lagoon. With the introduction of ReefPlan in 2009, which sets a target of a 50% reduction in herbicides entering the Great Barrier Reef lagoon by 2013, there is a need to investigate water quality implications of weed management practices. Models...
