چکیده

The paper investigates completions in the context of finitely generated lattice-based varieties of algebras. In particular the structure of canonical extensions in such a variety A is explored, and the role of the natural extension in providing a realisation of the canonical extension is discussed. The completions considered are Boolean topological algebras with respect to the interval topology, and consequences of this feature for their structure are revealed. In addition, we call on recent results from duality theory to show that topological and discrete dualities for A exist in partnership.

On profinite completions and canonical extensions

We show that if a variety V of monotone lattice expansions is finitely generated, then profinite completions agree with canonical extensions on V . The converse holds for varieties of finite type. It is a matter of folklore that the profinite completion of a Boolean algebra B is given by the power set of the Stone space of B, or in the terminology of Jónsson and Tarski [5], by the canonical ext...

Lattice of subalgebras in the finitely generated varieties of MV-algebras

In this paper, we use the theory of natural duality to study subalgebra lattices in the finitely generated varieties of MV-algebras. With this tool, we obtain the dual atomicity of these lattices, and characterize the members of these varieties in which every subalgebra is an intersection of maximal subalgebras. Then, we determine the algebras that have a modular or distributive lattice of suba...

Discrete dualities for n-potent MTL-algebras and 2-potent BL-algebras

Discrete dualities are developed for n-potent MTL–algebras and for 2-potent BL–algebras. That is, classes of frames, or relational systems, are defined that serve as dual counterparts to these classes of algebras. The frames defined here are extensions of the frames that were developed for MTL– algebras in [25], [26]; the additional frame conditions required are given here and also the proofs t...

Canonical extensions of Stone algebras: the natural way

Canonical extensions were first studied, in the context of Boolean algebras with operators (BAOs), in the classic work of B. Jónsson and A. Tarski [12]. The development of a corresponding theory in a less restricted setting than that of BAOs lagged far behind. However major advances have been made in the past ten years by M. Gehrke in collaboration with B. Jónsson, J. Harding, Y. Venema and oth...

Coproducts of Distributive Lattice based Algebras

The analysis of coproducts in varieties of algebras has generally been variety-specific, relying on tools tailored to particular classes of algebras. A recurring theme, however, is the use of a categorical duality. Among the dualities and topological representations in the literature, natural dualities are particularly well behaved with respect to coproduct. Since (multisorted) natural dualitie...
