Chevron osteotomy of the first metatarsal for hallux valgus.

چکیده
A retrospective study of 50 chevron osteotomies evaluated subjective and objective functional and cosmetic results, which were in keeping with other reported studies--i.e. satisfactory subjective cosmesis in 98%; excellent or good pain relief in 84%; and satisfactory objective cosmesis in 84%. The correction of the 1st intermetatarsal angle averaged 3.3 degrees, and that of the metatarsophalangeal valgus averaged 15 degrees. Average active range of motion of the 1st metatarsophalangeal joint was 60 degrees. Complications were generally mild and asymptomatic, and were usually iatrogenic. The findings of this study, together with information gained from a concomitant stress analysis, led to recommendations regarding operative technique.

Hallux valgus (bunions).
INTRODUCTION: Hallux valgus (bunions) are prominent and often inflamed metatarsal heads and overlying bursae. They are associated with valgus deviation of the great toe which moves towards the second toe. Hallux valgus is found in at least 2% of children aged 9 to 10 years, and almost half of adults, with greater prevalence in women. METHODS AND OUTCOMES: We conducted a systematic review and ai...
متن کاملDistal metatarsal osteotomy for hallux varus following surgery for hallux valgus.
We reviewed the outcome of distal chevron metatarsal osteotomy without tendon transfer in 19 consecutive patients (19 feet) with a hallux varus deformity following surgery for hallux valgus. All patients underwent distal chevron metatarsal osteotomy with medial displacement and a medial closing wedge osteotomy along with a medial capsular release. The mean hallux valgus angle improved from -11....
متن کاملComparison of Chevron osteotomy and modified McBride bunionectomy for correction of mild to moderate hallux valgus deformity.
The purpose of this study was to compare the results of the Chevron osteotomy to the DuVries' modification of the McBride procedure using identical criteria in two groups of patients. Thirty-two patients (48 feet) that had a Chevron osteotomy and 10 patients (17 feet) who had a modified McBride bunionectomy without metatarsal osteotomy for treatment of mild to moderate hallux valgus were retros...
متن کاملA comparison of proximal and distal Chevron osteotomy, both with lateral soft-tissue release, for moderate to severe hallux valgus in patients undergoing simultaneous bilateral correction: a prospective randomised controlled trial.
Moderate to severe hallux valgus is conventionally treated by proximal metatarsal osteotomy. Several recent studies have shown that the indications for distal metatarsal osteotomy with a distal soft-tissue procedure could be extended to include moderate to severe hallux valgus. The purpose of this prospective randomised controlled trial was to compare the outcome of proximal and distal Chevron ...
متن کاملThe risk of avascular necrosis following chevron osteotomy: a prospective study using bone scintigraphy.
Controversy exists with regard to the effects of chevron osteotomy on blood supply and subsequent development of avascular necrosis (AVN) of the first metatarsal head. The aim of this study was to assess the incidence of avascular necrosis in our centre following chevron osteotomy for hallux valgus, using bone scintigraphy. Thirty nine patients who had a chevron osteotomy for treatment of hallu...
متن کاملComparison of Clinical Outcomes of Scarf and Chevron Osteotomies and the McBride Procedure in the Treatment of Hallux Valgus Deformity
Background: Hallux valgus deformity is a common chronic problem in middle age and elderly. Different surgical procedures have been introduced so far with their proposed indications for each. This study aimed to compare three current procedures namely Chevron osteotomy, Scarf osteotomy and McBride technique. Methods: In this study, 44 patients were included from 2010 to 2013. All patie...
