Results from Shell Model Monte Carlo Studies

چکیده
We review results obtained using Shell Model Monte Carlo (SMMC) techniques. These methods reduce the imaginary-time many-body evolution operator to a coherent superposition of onebody evolutions in fluctuating one-body fields; the resultant path integral is evaluated stochastically. After a brief review of the methods, we discuss a variety of nuclear physics applications. These include studies of the ground-state properties of pf -shell nuclei, Gamow-Teller strength distributions, thermal and rotational pairing properties of nuclei near N = Z, γ-soft nuclei, and ββ-decay in Ge. Several other illustrative calculations are also reviewed. Finally, we discuss prospects for further progress in SMMC and related calculations.

Results: Results showed 4-53% difference between full and wit...
متن کاملCalculation of exciton densities in the shell-model Monte Carlo method
We develop a shell-model Monte Carlo method to calculate densities of states with varying exciton ~particlehole! number. We then apply this method to the doubly closed-shell nucleus Ca in a full 0s-1d-0 f -1p shell-model space and compare our results to those found using approximate analytic expressions for the partial densities. We find that the effective one-body level density is reduced by a...
متن کاملMonte Carlo methods and applications for the nuclear shell model
The shell-model Monte Carlo (SMMC) technique transforms the traditional nuclear shell-model problem into a path-integral over auxiliary fields. We describe below the method and its applications to four physics issues: calculations of sd-pf shell nuclei, a discussion of electron-capture rates in pf -shell nuclei, exploration of pairing correlations in unstable nuclei, and level densities in rare...
متن کاملD ec 1 99 3 Practical solution to the Monte Carlo sign problem : Realistic calculations of 54 Fe
We present a practical solution to the " sign problem " in the auxiliary field Monte Carlo approach to the nuclear shell model. The method is based on extrapolation from a continuous family of problem-free Hamiltonians. To demonstrate the resultant ability to treat large shell-model problems, we present results for 54 Fe in the full f p-shell basis using the Brown-Richter interaction. We find t...

We study the gross properties of even-even and N = Z nuclei with A = 48 64 using shell-model Monte Carlo methods. Our calculations account for all 0 h! con gurations in the fp-shell and employ the modi ed Kuo-Brown interaction KB3. We nd good agreement with data for masses and total B(E2) strengths, the latter employing e ective charges ep = 1:35e and en = 0:35e. The calculated total Gamow-Tell...
