Secretin: the enterogastrone released by acid in the duodenum.

چکیده
215 (4): 885-888. 1968.-The inhibitory effects of intravenous infusions of secretin and intraduodenal infusions of HCl on gastric secretion were compared in dogs having Heidenhain pouches, gastric and duodenal fistulas. With the gastric fistula open a constant level of secretion was established in the Heidenhain pouch with either gastrin (0.4 or 0.8 g/kg per hr) or histamine dihydrochloride (0.04 mg/kg per hr). During this time the duodenum was infused with 154 rnM NaCl. Then either 160 mM HCl was substituted for NaCl in the duodenal infusate or a physiological dose of secretin (4 U/kg per hr) was injected intravenously. Both acid and secretin inhibited gastrin-stimulated secretion within 15 min and at 1 hr secretion was close to zero. Secretin inhibited secretion produced by 0.8 g gastrin more effectively than acid, but otherwise their effects were the same. Neither acid nor secretin inhibited histaminestimulated secretion. Therefore a physiological dose of secretin was able to account for all the. inhibition of gastric secretion seen with acid in the duodenum. We conclude that secretin is probably the only enterogastrone released by acid in the duodenum.

Effect of secretin and cholecystokinin-pancreozymin
The inhibition of gastric motility induced by placing fat in the duodenum was demonstrated to be humoral by Farrell and Ivy (1926). Subsequent studies on extracts of duodenal mucosa have failed to define the substance involved, although the concept that 'enterogastrone' is a duodenal hormone inhibiting both gastric motility and acid secretion is accepted (Grossman, 1950). In recent years, speci...
متن کاملGranule release from endocrine cells in acidified human duodenal bulb: an electron microscope study of biopsy materials.
The endocrine cells of the human duodenal bulb were observed under the electron microscope in biopsy tissues taken by normal procedure and after luminal acidification. 1. The endocrine cells in this portion were found more frequently than in the lower part of the duodenum previously examined by our research group. 2. At least 9 types of endocrine cells were distinguished by their fine structure...

متن کاملActions and release characteristics of secretin in the rat cerebellum
Secretin, a peptide hormone of the gastrointestinal system, has been implicated in the etiology of autism. Our laboratory previously demonstrated the expression of secretin and its receptors in specific central neurons, and found for the first time that secretin is neuroactive in the cerebellum. We showed that bath application of secretin facilitated the release of GABA from terminals of basket...
