Microanalysis of copper-tin phases in dental amalgam.
نویسندگان
چکیده
An etch resistance phase was found in dental silver amalgam when the amalgam was examined metallographically. This phase was common to the silver alloy ingot as well as to its prepared amalgam. Qualitative electron microprobe technics were used to identify this phase. Quantitative electron microprobe analysis defined it as the R' phase of the copper-tin system or the intermetallic compound Cu6Sn5.

Use of inductively coupled plasma-emission spectroscopy and mercury vapor analyses to evaluate elemental release from a high-copper dental amalgam: a pilot study.
STATEMENT OF PROBLEM The use of dental amalgam as a direct restorative material has been a subject of controversy for many years. The potential safety of amalgam has been questioned because of leakage of elements such as mercury, copper, tin, and silver. PURPOSE This study evaluated the elemental leaching from Tytin dental amalgam placed in deionized water for 2 months. Both mercury vapor and...
متن کاملIons released from dental amalgams in contact with titanium.
The ions released from conventional and high-copper amalgams in contact with titanium were quantitatively analyzed in a 0.9% NaCl solution at 37 degrees C when the surface area ratio of titanium/amalgam was set up as 1/10, 1/1, or 10/1. The corrosion potentials of the amalgams and titanium were measured under the same conditions. Surface analyses on the amalgams were also employed using SEM wit...
متن کاملAn Investigation of the Constitution of the Mercury-Tin System
An investigation of the constitution of the mercury-tin system was made by a combination of three techniques: differential thermal analysis; diffusion and chemical analysis; and X-ray diffraction. The mercury-silver-tin system is of interest because it is the basis of dental amalgam, the most important single dental restorative material. Information as to the constitution of these alloys is inc...
متن کاملSurface change of dental amalgam after treatment with 10% carbamide peroxide.
The aim of this study was to explore the effect of bleaching agents on the release of metal ions and change in physical and chemical characteristics of amalgams. Amalgam surface changes resulting from bleaching on amalgam were assessed with inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrophotometer, an automatic mercury analyzer, a colorimeter, and atomic force microscopy. Analysis of the rel...
متن کاملSn4(OH)6Cl2 and SnO corrosion products of amalgams.
Although the corrosion characteristics of dental amalgam have been of considerable interest to dental researchers, it has been difficult to identify the products which form in vivo. This report demonstrates that Sn4(OH)6Cl2 and SnO are formed in vivo and in vitro. The Sn-Cl product is the predominant phase formed by corrosion-induced changes of the Sn8Hg phase of amalgam. It is present in conve...
